Hello, I'm planning a trip to Canada and was wondering if I could get the help of some of you guys, I know this topic has been discussed before, but I really would like a good input on what I already have chosen, and what else I should add, any help would be much appreciated

PS. bands that are from Canada (i.e. Spoons, Men Without Hats, etc.) you got the idea, thank you [:)]

STRANGE ADVANCE - WE RUN
MARTHA AND THE MUFFINS - DANSPARC, ECHO BEACH, YOU SOLD THE COTTAGE
ROUGH TRADE - ALL TOUCH, HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL
MEN WITHOUT HATS - I LIKE, THINGS IN MY LIFE, WHERE DO THE BOYS GO
BLUE PETER - DON'T WALK PAST
EIGHT SECONDS - (KISS YOU) WHEN IT'S DANGEROUS
THE SPOONS - NOVAHEART, ROMANTIC TRAFFIC

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

oh, and is Maurcie and The Cliches from Canada?

IMO Darkroom were an underrated band. Probably best known for their song San Paku, but had a number of other great songs as well.

Boys Brigade and Breeding Ground were also good groups deserving of more recognition.

And I think Maurice and the Cliches were Canadian, but don't quote me on that.

I agree Darkside were so overlooked. The track San Paku was superb, as was the rest of that LP.

Breeding Ground is on CD actually, at least it was a few years ago. I picked one up in Montreal. I'd also look for:

Blue Peter - there is a good canandian comp with Don't Walk Past
Chalk Circle - especially their earlier releases, they are all on CD
The Box - anything by them, they are brilliant

Many others, but most likely these will be possibly available depending on where you go in Canada. Montreal I know has some good shops that will likely have them, such as the HMV stores, Sam The Man on St. Catherine and a few other shops, maybe Dutchys. Of course, I have no idea where in Canada you are heading, I am sure Toronto must have some good shops also.

It is pretty amazing, the wealth of excellent music that comes out of Canada. Fortunatley, we get to see some of it at least.

The CD was called Revisited. Sadly it missed much of the group's earlier work. One song that did make the CD was This Time Tomorrow:

Maurice & The Cliches were originally from Vancouver, but moved to the U.S. at some point.

I guess you could use the Platinum Blonde song in my User ID.

Can't go wrong with Payola$, Cats Can Fly, Tic Toc, FM, Saga, Harlequin, Boys Brigade, Chilliwack, blah, blah, blah...

Don't know if it's in the hotels, but I get sick of watching it at home.

Inneresting post. I guess like a lot of people-I don't have much awareness of the Canadian new wave scene. I mostly know the US and Brit bands.

Probably not. It's a specialty pay channel. You should be able to get MuchMoreMusic, which has an hour long Retro program a few times a week. MMM is a standard cable channel. Schedule is at http://www.muchmoremusic.com

Strange Advance - Worlds Away (probably their biggest hit)
Images in Vogue - Lust for Love, Call it Love, Save It

I think this compilation is out of print, but you might be able to find it somewhere ...
Retro 80s Vol 6 - Pure Canadian
http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/mus ... 80's+6.htm
http://www.last.fm/music/Various+Artist ... e+Canadian
It sells for under $15.

PS. In case you make it to Calgary, look for a store called Recordland (they should be in the phonebook). They've got <a href="http://skholla.com/index.cfm?entryID=4E005A" target=_blank>wall to wall (literally!)</a> used vinyls and CDs.
