It does look great. It says region 4, does that mean I need special to even use it on my DVD player, or can I load them directly onto my PC?? Not sure how all that coding and regions stuff works, just know that if it is region 1 I can it, maybe even region 0. These are videos, correct?

I'd love to get this set, but only if I can obviously play them.

"Count Down" was more a concert showcase than a music video show. Although they ran those, too.

I think my friend sent me a tape some time ago with the Swingers performance on it. Unless they performed that on there more than once.

Australias Countdown was actually a Chart Run-Down program from Australian music charts as well as the US and the UK charts for the same time period. It featured live acts as well as video clips. It also had interviews, guest hosts and yes, to a smaller degree, information on upcoming concerts and brief run downs on newly released albums.

Oh.. and grunch.. region 4 is the Aust standard region. You will need a region free DVD player to play it elsewhere and probably gear that is compatible withthe PAL standard (as apposed to NTSC). A lot of devices these days will do both. DVD-ROM's can usually only have regions changed a few times before you are 'stuck'. Some can be tweaked to be region free... the net is a good source of info on this topic.

This 2 disc set is utterly amazing. It's got almost every Aussie band that matters and they pick the write songs too. Highly recommended for everyone. There are a few audio drops and the videos end a little abruptly at times but for the content, it's well worth it. Some questions for those of you who have it already.

Where's the drummer for Pseudo Echo (Anthony Johan Aguire) at in the performance? Did he leave the band already or was this a performance before he came on? Also, was this a live version of "Listening" or was it just a very different version from the one I'm used to hearing.

I've never heard of Sharon O'Neill before I got this dvd and I totally love this song. How are her other songs? This one kind of reminds me of Scandal.

According to my buddy in NZ (she's from NZ), "Maxine" was her biggest hit there.

The only thing I have of hers is the album that features that song, "Foreign Affairs," and just between you and me, there are at least two better tracks on it. Keep an ear out for "Danger" and "Losing You." I thought it was appropriate of her to have a song called "Danger," since the album reminds me of The Motels. (Well, and Scandal, too.)

She's the spitting image of Kim Wilde in some pics; Sheena Easton in others.

Of course, she had a lot more records released in Australasia than in the U.S. "Foreign Affairs" marked her American debut. Pretty much marked her American farewell, too!

Countdown was a great time for Australian music. I went to many live studio recordings of the show. The down side was that it was all mimed.
And Sharon O'neill was very tasty,in the flesh she was even better.

^ Would have been excellent to go to countdown! Who was the biggest star(s) from all of the tiems you went to a recording?

(makes a note to put the countdown DVD and Book on Xmas list) [:D]

Hey TragicMagic...good to see another fellow Aussie. How good is this site.I wish I had found it sooner.
I think the Machinations,Sunnyboys and the Church were my stand out Aussie bands. I was so into their music.
And Sharon O'neill was a stunner.I met her when I was working on a video clip for Dragon "Rain"
I've worked with most of the Aussie/NZ bands of the 80's.I'm a key grip in the film industry.
Bring it back on I say [8D]

Heya stranded. Wow, sounds like you had an interesting 80's! much more interesting and involved than me simply watching music express saturday afternoons and countdown, TRAX etc!! heh I was watching things you were involved in and not even knowing it.

Rain is my wifes fave Dragon song BTW.

There are a few of us Aussies lurking about here. Its a great source of putting names to rare tracks and expanding musical boundries. There are some amazinglu knowlegable people on here, its always a great read.

Hope to see you about the place.
