Anyone want to share their greatest find of finding an obscure new wave track on CD?
I'd be tasked to find the best. But there were times where I was convinced I would NOT find something preserved on CD. They include:
Passion Planet--Thompson Twins (appeared on Seadated in the Eighties V. 4)
It's My Party--Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin (and it appeared on two CD compilations--Pop and Wave V. 1 AND The Stiff Records Box Set)
Pajama Party--Unit 3 With Venus (along with "Buffy Come Back" by Angel and the Reruns on the Obscurity File CD)
I'm sure there are others, but those stick on my mind right now. So--what were your greatest new wave finds?

waldnorm,
Mine is "This Island Earth," by Strange Advance. I bought their third album (CD), The Distance Between, many years after it had been initially released. For me, it is one of those haunting songs that I can never hear enough.
I know that this is not a B-Side or never-before-released track, but the whole CD is pretty obscure.
If you haven't heard it check it out.

I Wanna Be A Flintstone (Extended) on Hard To Find Classics:
Alternative 80's (later appeared on Retro:Active Vol. 1)
The Other Ones-Holiday on Priority's cheapo series Rock Of The 80's, Volume 14.
The Tourists "I Only Want To Be With You" on Big Hits, Skinny Ties.
Behind The Wheel/Route 66 Extended Megamix on a quality bootleg Depeche Mode-The Remixes 86-98
Steinski & Mass Media-The Motorcade Sped On (original version) on "No Rights Given Or Implied: The Original Samplers" ...though it was definitely a vinyl rip....
Then there's the plethora of goodness to be found in the Hardest Hits and Classic Alternatives series.
I used to find some of the best stuff on the budget comps...and in closeout stores like Big Lots.
My best CD find was Screaming Blue Messiahs-Bikini Red. I had requested it at a used CD store. 2 years later it showed up...for 3.99! Second was finding Hardest Hits Volume 1 at a reasonable price.

Just the other day I received a CD in the mail that contained a song I thought I'd never hear: "The Cure" by Boys Don't Cry (and no, I do not have that backwards!). It was off their second CD "Who The Am Dam Do You Think We Am?" and it was a bonus track on the import only - the import had 13 tracks, the domestic only 9 (why does this happen so often, even today? The latest Keane disc outside of the U.S. had an extra song, the latest Snow Patrol had two extra songs, etc. Why would you deprive a country of music that you could easily put on a disc? But I digress and bitch).
Finding this song was impossible because every time I did a search for "Boys Don't Cry" and "The Cure", naturally the results would all be for "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure.
The song really isn't anything special, it's really more of a novelty. All it is an instrumental where every 15 seconds or so, someone says "the cure!" I imagine it was just a joke by the band. But at least my search is over [:D]

Yup! I finally found it today--"Daddy's Money" by Ogden Edsl. My next monumental and miraculous find--"Somebody" and the 12" mix by Brilliant, lastly, "Isn't It Enough" by Danny Wilde.

I fell hook, line, and sinker for the Bongos' "Numbers With Wings" because of its inclusion on a Richard Blade's Flashback Favorites compilation. And long before that on a Just Can't Get Enough compilation I really, really got into "Anywhere With You" by Rubber Rodeo, which, I mean, hardly no one who was a teenager in the mid '90s was going to even know who Rubber Rodeo were, so that was pretty darn obscure amongst my generation.

Ooh, good point. Though you could try adding quotation marks to "the the" and including "matt johnson" in your search query. Even though Matt Johnson has got one of the most common names in the world, the combination of those two search elements leads to a whole lot of happiness for a The The fan.
Heaven help you if you're trying to look up information on the mid '80s funk/synthpop group Language. Not even incorporating Language frontman Steven Hale's name into the search query leads you anywhere. You're better off Googling either of their distinctively titled most well known songs, "Touch The Radio Dance" or "Goodbye Indian Summer".
Um, this is for another thread, isn't it?
