New Wave Outpost Forum

Some artists peaked early and some took time to place their stake as legends of the genre. Which of the following debuts best represented
a band or artist at the pinnacle of their powers? Note: no one-hit wonders here (like the Pistols).

If your favorite is not on the list, then please post!

I voted for The Talking Heads, although all the albums listed are GREAT, it was really hard to choose one! [:(!] Ugh! [:p] [;)]

Other great debuts:

The Jam - In The City
The Chords - Happpy Families
OMD - OMITD

Waiting to see what others will vote for and post! [:)]

So if the bands are supposed to decline after their debuts, then it's a tough choice as most went on to produce better albums. I would have voted for the Go-gos Beauty and the Beat.

Are you sure they needed to decline?

I voted for Murmur, but Id also throw in The Smiths debut. The Blur, Suede, and Oasis debuts might be my three favorites, but that could be the love of britpop talking.

I'd put into the poll:
U2 - Boy
The Cars - The Cars

I voted for R.E.M. - Murmer

I would add:
The Cars - The Cars

first of all why no one hit wonders?

you asked what bands started great then declined, who said they had to have any hits at all?

for me the first duran duran album is incredible.
and the first pseudo echo album.

I voted for Look Sharp but Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy is my first choice.

I, too, would have voted for the Cars if that choice was there. So I voted for Murmur.

The Cars- The Cars

no contest.

Three to add:

Duran Duran - Duran Duran

The (English) Beat - Just Can't Stop It

Madness - One Step Beyond

Skids-Scared to dance

Joe Jackson-Look Sharp

and Television-Marquee moon

A-Ha's "Hunting High and Low." Perfection all the way through.
