Soundtrack of your High School days

Yeah yeah, we all dig new wave, but what was playing in your cars cassette player during your high school days? I just dug through an old box of cassettes from way back when (yeah, I'm a packrat) and came across these "gems":

-Crazy from the heat (David Lee Roth)
-Eat 'em and smile (David Lee Roth)
-Fair Warning (Van Halen)
-Tougher than leather (Run DMC)
-Greatest Hits(Aerosmith)
-The New Zapp 4U (Zapp)
-The nightfly (Donald Fagan)
-Back in black (AC/DC)
-Appetite for destruction (Guns 'N' Roses)
-Tejas (ZZ Top)
-Electric Cafe (Kraftwerk)
-Move somethin' (2 Live Crew)
-Oh no it's Devo! (Devo)
-Moving Pictures (Rush)
-Rattle and Hum (U2)
-Straight Outta Compton (NWA)
-Electric spanking of war babies (Funkadelic)
-more stuff like the above, tons and tons of it

I forgot how little new wave I actually listened to back in the day (unless it was on Mtv or the radio, or from my sis' record collection) and am slightly amazed that my musical tastes have broadened quite a bit. Hell, I even listen to polka every once in a while.

They didn't have cassettes back when I was in high school.....we had to have the band in our back seat.

Seriously....I was listening to Colonel Tom and the Epstein Bros. (had a great version of "It's a Rainy Day Sunshine Girl" by Can), Tonio K, Godley Creme, Kraftwerk, Television, Dead Fingers Talk, The Hounds, Pop, Elvis of course and a bunch of Krautrock most of which I still have today.

Max

The music you listen to is the soundtrack of your life.

2. Beethoven (I Love to Listen To) - Eurythmics
3. Fire Woman - The Cult
4. Lost in Dreaming - Red Temple Spirits
5. Three Days - Jane's Addiction

This will no doubt raise a smile, here in the uk we leave highschool at 16 (unless it's sex-form shcool)and aren't old enough to drive so um, that would be a bit illegal, it would have to be sitting in parent's car which in that case probably Guns n Roses and Def Leppard.[:)]

Devolution is real

[/quote]Wow - my list would be eerily similar. I listened to quite a bit of Blue Oyster Cult, Ted Nugent and those Southern Rock bands before New Wave hit my town's airwaves in '83. Then I played REM, Romeo Void, INXS, U2, Boingo.

This thread of pre-MTV favs sums it up for me...or at least my idealize recollection of it...

http://nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4111

It was a very rapid transition from Zep and Prog Rock to New Wave at my SoCal area HS.

My high school edumacation daze were from 75-78 so for me the big groups were...

Jimi
The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Doobie Brothers
Jethro Tull
Deep Purple
Ted Nugent
Black Sabbath
Aerosmith
Fleetwood Mac
David Bowie
and god, Led Zeppelin, too. Well even you hate that one. [:D]

Van Halen played a lunch time concert at our high school in 1976 so technically I could add them to that list but they just really sucked then.
