TRB - "Glad to be Gay"

Postby bpdp3 » Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:30 am

I've always liked Tom Robinson, patricularly the Sector 27 lp, but I remember having the 1st TRB lp with "Glad to be Gay" on it. Maybe this sounds crazy, but for me (always hetero) it really helped nurture a sense of understanding that even though there were people different from me, they weren't anything to be afraid of. I learned this at 14, which is something some struggle with their whole lives.

I don't know of any style of music other than new wave that would've helped me become an open-minded individual when it came to this. Music really CAN make a difference.

I remember feeling the same way when Bronski Beat's "Small Town Boy" (song and video) came around - - I felt a sense of empathy. Even though it was not my own personal experience, it helped paint the picture for me. That stayed with me my whole life.

I'm wondering if anyone else had the same experience, or if any gay members on the board found any solace in these recordings.

I never felt bad about listening to the Bronski Beat.

Everybody's different- as the great philosophizer Everlast once said:

"God forbid you'd have to walk a mile in his shoes..."
