I LOVE NEW WAVE BECAUSE of it's beat, rhythm, melody, lyrics, style, fashion, the bands, and the classic touch of vinyl records. [;)]

... I love God!!

...naaaaaaa.... wrong answer.

I love NW cos I love variety and there's no genre that is as diverse as NW is. And the aesthetics of NW bands are just so cool. Nobody looks that good nowadays.

it reminds me of my youth, when looking "weird" meant taking a risk every time you walked out the door. When you got chastised for being a fan of "that fag music". When you didn't get invited to the party because people were afraid you'd bring your Vapors record. When there was something new and exciting to discover around every corner, and each week brought several new discoveries and favorite band.

Because in no other music form would you get bands as unique and varied. The new wave bands actually used synths in an inventive good way. Plus they all had their own sound and images. I guess it was more fun, alot of pop/rock music today is very bland/samey![xx(]

And to think that people are now interested in New Wave and like when you teach them about it. I'm happy I've got the chance to do that... especially, cause I'm a fairly recent (but really deep) new waver.
This Friday, I'm sort of taking all my dvd stuff to a friend's house and we are having like a video-party.

It is experimental. New wave artists are'nt afraid to make songs and sounds that no one has ever heard. The rules about what a band had to look like or sound like went out the window.

...because of it's diversity. What other music genre can claim such different sounding groups as Gary Numan and Big Country?

Many eras and genres..........

60s - Try Simon and Garfunkel sound versus even The Doors, or any of the countless psych pop bands.

Soul - I'm talking older soul stuff, Stax/Volt, Philly Soul, Motown....very diverse.

70s - From Eric Carmen to the likes of many hard rock bands, say Uriah Heep.....it was all rock/pop.

80s - same thing, too many examples to even mention

Heck, go back to the sounds of the 40s and 50s, there were sounds as far removed from each other, yet quite good in their own ways.

Just wanted to point out that new wave as a genre really did not have any more diversity than many other genres, or eras for that matter. Not if you really stopped to deeply delve into them, it's amazing what you find....

One I would have to say first and formost is that its music that I grew up to.I also think that 90% of the stuff we grew up to is still better than the commercial crap they put out now (even though in many aspects wave was commercial but Ill save THAT for another topic).

I have listened to 'wave' for many many many years, its in my blood I guess.

The beauty of New Wave is not so much in its diversity but as mentioned earlier in its melody, typical beat and fresh non-commercial sound.
Some dudes have obviously a problem with that coz they listened to stations playing the most commercial NW bands. Sooner or later, they will realize that the best representative of NW is Joy Division, simply because that band is more in tune with the original concept of Nouvelle Vague as initiated by French film directors.
