Pacific NW NWOers, I need your help

Postby beatschool » Fri Sep 01, 2006 3:51 am

Hi guys -

I'm trying to reconstruct playlists from the 80s Seattle club scene. I'm listing the clubs in chronological order of their popularity.

Skoochies - (For example, Cee Farrow - Should I)
Monastery
Pacific Breeze (Tacoma)
City Beat
Club Broadway
The Underground

Am I missing any clubs? I'm trying to remember a club in Renton and one in Federal Way, but drawing a blank.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're missing Tonight's the Night on Mercer Island! That's where all us "rich kids" from the East Side (yeah right, you know the story) went. TTN was open at least as of spring 1981, because I went there a few times in 9th grade, but by 1983 they had New Wave nights Friday, Wednesday, and Sunday. I didn't start going to Skoochies until the fall of 1983. I'll post some Skoochies stuff later. And do you have the actual Skoochies playlist that Stephen Rabow sent me? If not, e-mail me at hexicon AT yahoo.com

Off the top of my head, the summer of 1983 at TTN:

New Order, Blue Monday
Yaz, Don't Go, Bad Connection
Cure, Let's Go to Bed
B-52s, Strobe Light, Rock Lobster
Michael Sembello, Maniac
Yello, I Love You
Blind Vision, Blancmange
All Lined Up, Shriekback
Soft Core, Maurice & the Cliches
Taco, Putting on the Ritz
Thompson Twins, Love on Your Side
Tin Tin, Kiss Me and Hold It
Stand By, Roman Holliday
Prince, 1999, DMSR
Men Without Hats, Safety Dance
Aztec Camera, Oblivious (hardly a dance track, but they played it)
Freur, Doot Doot
Duran Duran, Reflex, Something I Should Know
TFF, Pale Shelter
Weathergirls, It's Raining Men
Michael Jackson, Billie Jean, Starting Something, Thriller

There was a popular club in Renton, my neighbor used to go there every weekend. The name is on the tip of my tongue!!!

Anyways I despised the club scene back in the day. Spent my Friday/Saturday nights scouring the used record stores on the Ave. and hanging out at Arnold's.

When I turned 21 I finally started going to some clubs. Vouge was my favorite.
