The Three Johns and The Thompson Twins are another two who come to mind.

Jurrasic Five used to have 6 members before Cut Chemist left.

Belle and Sebastian (Belle is just riding on Sebastian's coattails)
10,000 Maniacs (I thought they only had 9,999 members)
Pizzicato Five (a bunch of Chinese people who all look the same)
One Dove (solo project of Doves)

The Thompson Twins . . ."That's 3 members but had 4. Not 2 members but had 3."

"Oh . . . that's very different" "Nevermind"

"Emily, if you are going to post in New Wave Outpost. You need to read them well and post accurately. If you do not post accurately, we may ask you to leave. No post is permanent."

"Okay, Jane. I will try to better."

"Please do."

"Bitch."

A serious answer to a wonderfully unserious query: Front 242. They always presented themselves in their early videos as a trio, but they had a full fourth member always offstage. Daniel B. wan't photographed with the rest of the band until Off Evil in '93.

another serious answer to a joke question...

Depeche Mode. Many people (perhaps unfairly) looked at Andrew Fletcher's role as less integral to the group. I think there was a period when he contributed less musically but more as an advisor, manager, and spokesperson for the band. Not that he isn't an accomplished musician.

(okay, continue with the joking [:)])

I still can't get over the fact that Those French Girls were neither French nor girls.
