Next in line on the alphabetic journey. Please post all opinions (and tunes if you have them) of:

Sad Lovers and Giants
Screaming Tribesmen
Service
Shoes
Sleep Chamber
Chris Spedding
Straitjacket Fits
Sun City Girls

At this point I'd like to thank all of you who have taken time to educate me (and I hope others) about these bands. Beatschool and Spaz, a personal note that your expertise (and willingness to share same) is much appreciated[:)]

IIRC Shoes started out as a power pop outfit and later experimented with some synthpop-ish sounding stuff. "Will You Spin For Me", from the latter category, got a brief bit of airplay. The others on your list are too obscure for me.

Staitjacket Fits are from New Zealand, not as overtly poppy as other Kiwi guitar bands like The Chills or The Bats. I haven't listened to them in awhile, but I recall Hail and Melt being pretty good and the last album Blow being awful. IIRC, a lot of the songs are drenched in the reverb that was so popular in the early 90s.

I don't think they are hard to find used. Pick up either Hail or Melt (whichever has Down In Splendour, a fantastic song).

Sleep Chamber are/were a Boston band very much in line with Psychic TV both in sound and philosophy. Brooding, moody electronics and lyrics dealing with psycho-sexual topics.

Chris Spedding is a legend in certain circles. He has played guitar off and on with Roxy Music, produced some early Sex Pistols demos, had a couple small his in the UK with Motorbikin', and Pogo Dancing where he was backed up by The Vibrators.

I had the very distinct displeasure of seeing The Sun City Girls live in 1984. It was really bad acidpunk like The Butthole Surfers. I don't know if he was part of the band or not, but there was a guy on a mic screaming the entire set.

He was also the guitarist in The Wombles, a kid's novelty band of the late 70's/early 80s.

My all time Sad Lovers favorites are 'Seven Kinds Of Sin' and 'In Flux'. In time I can manage to post them, hopefully.

Shoes did start as power pop, and stayed pretty much in that vein. The first release, Black Vinyl Shoes, was great, as was the second album (Present Tense). The rest were good, but not up to that level. Several of them are available on itunes.

Where would we be without Wikipedia?

I'll link two Sad Lovers songs shortly. This can only be done from work unfortunately.
