Who was your total obsession...and why?

For me it was Paul Weller. The clothes, the haircut, The pop-art stratocasters, the scooters and the voice. Through each incarnation I wanted to be like Paul. Sick, innit? None of my other friends gave a sh*t about The Jam, let alone The Style Council, but I defend them to this day...

You're kidding. Isn't that George Michael's? [;)]
My obsession - Terri Nunn. She's so damn sexy... and I like the music too.

Kate Bush.
The six-feet tall posters, collecting issues of Homeground, spending way too much time in college reading Bush-related Usenet news groups, buying the box set even though I owned most everything in it, admitting to liking The Line, The Cross, The Curve, buying all the picture discs, wishing I was Del Palmer etc etc etc

First it was DEVO 1980-1983. They spoke my language and played my music. I was a truly devolved spudboy.
Then it was The Sex Pistols. Anger, attitude, rocknroll, image, message, manifesto... it was all there. I'm still somewhat obsessed with them, it goes in waves.
Late 80s and early 90's my girlfriend and I were both obsessed with The Sisters Of Mercy and The Jesus And Mary Chain. I think I was just along for the ride, but we kind of both fed each other and fed off of each other's enthusiasm.
By then I was too old to care anymore.

for me, early on, it was Eurythmics. I loved their music, their look, the videos, everything about them. I had posters all over my room.

The Cure... imagine bored school girl that discovers the poetry and looks of one of the greatest bands among the NW genre.
Suddenly, it's Robertmania all around [:D].... posters, pins, albums, DVDs...
Also The Police... I spent a period in which it was the only thing I listened to.
And Joy Division... but you all know that. [;)]
I think that nowadays is Japan. Love the band. [:)]

My obsession beyond my 9th grade french teacher, she was smokin' would have to be the Cars. A completely different sound from what was out at the time, I would listen to their debut and Candy-O until I almost wore out the lp's.

I've also been a Lovehound and still am in some ways. And I admit it--I've also been a Toriphile--especially when Kate went on her long break. And even when Tori was denying her homage to Kate (she has admitted so since, and even covered "Running Up That Hill" and "Dream of Sheelp" in concerts). B
But Kate's music still amazes me-- as wonderful works of art. Of course, I wanted everything she's ever recorded, including demos, etc. And for me, it was through Kate I eventually discovered Peter Gabriel. Other than that, it's more genre and style (such as new wave music and its close siblings/cousins).

I am a huge fan of both Kate and Tori. Tori's new box set is fantastic.... it's a great career overview.

Ok, here goes....Gary Numan. Something connected when I first heard him. My friends thought he was ok but, I dunno.....I loved the sound and the look. It lasted almost 2 years then Japan / China Crisis took over. No obsessions anymore other than trying to collect just about every new wave release I may have missed from back in the day.

My one & only (music-related) obsession was Debbie Harry. My bedroom was covered in posters - many of which I still have rolled up somewhere in my basement!
I tried to buy everything I could, read anything out there, etc. Typical fan-boy stuff.
It wasn't just Deb though, I fell in love with the music first. I remember seeing her cover of High Times around '77, with all the safety pins & stuff & I was pretty turned off. The whole punk thing didn't speak to me at first & she was pretty much the most recognizable media face in the early scene. Although, that cover intrigued me enough to check out the music - which I was totally into & then of course the awesome Deb!
(See, I'm still a bathering fan-boy!)

From what I remember, it was first Neil Young, then Van Halen, and finally U2.
