Hypothetically: Original & Cover Artists

This could be a shot in the dark but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway.

There are many covers out there that I like. Not necessarily more than the original but I find them quite good nonetheless. Kirsty MacColl's version of Billy Bragg's A New England comes immediately to mind. Some of you may feel the same way about this or other covers.

Now how about this - and this is purely hypothetical - what if the original artist and cover artist recorded the song you like as a duet? Maybe they sing together, maybe they take turns on the verses. I think that if Kirsty was still alive and she were to do that with Billy, I would'nt mind.

Any other cover / team-ups come to mind that you think might work?

Just admit it, you want that Wille Nelson/PSB "Always On My Mind"...BAD! I frankly think Frank Sinatra and the Sex Pistols doing "My Way" would be much more entertaining...oops, too many dead people.

I'll settle for The Jam and Morrissey doing "That's Entertainment". Or maybe David Bowie and Peter Murphy on "Ziggy Stardust". Electronic and Blind Faith on "Can't Find My Way Home"?!

Maybe Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson doing it then? Oh yeah, let's just keep it at New Wave [;)]

What about Pet Shop Boys and Sterling Void doing Alright? HMMM, fabulous [8D]

PSB & Bono singing "Where the Streets Have No Name/Can't Take My Eyes Off of You", but Bono is only allowed to sing the "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" part. Might not work, but I'd pay to see it [:D].

Nick Cave doing "Running Scared" with Roy Orbison.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Bruce Springsteen doing "Born to Run" (again, might not work, but it'd be something else to see 'The Boss' trying to duet with Holly Johnson).

Gloria Jones and Soft Cell doing "Tainted Love"...although I'm not sure if Gloria is still alive. She might be.

You never know. U2 covered Abba's Dancing Queen. Hearing Bono sing "Oo-oo-ooh, see that girl, watch that queen, diggin' the Dancing Queen" is a pretty groovy thing to hear [:p] [:D]

You could add Crowded House to that line up as well. At some point they had Roger McGuinn warm up for them. Between sets, they played some tunes with him under the name "Byrdhouse". The tune actually shows up on a Split Enz compilation called "Other Enz: Split Enz and Beyond" (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... 8m963ojep2)
