What album or cassette was the FIRST that you listened to over and over and over and over and over again ?

Not necessarily a new wave artist, either. We've had discussions on what our first NW LPs/cassettes were, our "gateway" to NW, our earliest musical purchases, etc., but what was the first one that you listened to ALL the time ?

Last night, I drug out Men At Work's Business as Usual, which I rarely listen to now. But I still remembered every single word, note, drum roll, sax solo, etc. It was weird! And that is because BAU was the 1st cassette I listened the heck out of, back in the day. Yes, Men At Work--there, I said it. I was on the cusp of full-time New Wave. But the memories of constantly playing it all came rushing back. I couldn't believe I remembered every bit of that cassette.

Yours?

PLayed the crap out of The Cars (S/T and Candy-O), David Bowie (Diamond Dogs), Gary Numan (Pleasure Principle), OMD (OMITD and Organization), Duran Duran (DD and Rio), Adam And The Ants (Kings Of The Wild Frontirs), The Go-Go's (Beauty And The Beat), The Specials (Specials and More Specials), The Selector (Too Much Pressure), Madness (One Step Beyond...), Bad Manners (Ska 'N' B and Gosh... It's Bad Manners), AFOS... so many! I miss playing records and tapes!

Also, played the crap out of Split Enz: True Colours and Corroboree (in U.S. as: Waiata) [:)]

Additional LPs I just thought of:

DEVO - Duty Now For The Future (we'd even played it during chemistry class in 11th garde!!!)
X -Los Angeles
The Blasters - The Blasters

That would be Blondie, Parallel Lines (still in my NW top 10 albums).

I have a very distinct memory of listening to this album in the eighth grade, 1980, with my friends Lori, Staci, and Liz, and discussing whether "Pretty Baby" really was or was not written for Brooke Shields. Also, we were drinking tea from a real teapot, because we wanted to be punks, punks were English, tea was English, ergo . . . [?]

As a kid it was soundtracks on LP. Grease, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Xanadu(which I taped from the telly).

I loved new wave when MTV first started but owned none of it. My best friend in JR High subjected me to Prince's 'Purple Rain' record over and over and over again. Cyndi Lauper's debut got it's share of airtime in that household as well.

JR year in highschool I borrowed a cassette of 'Sweet Dreams(Are Made Of This)' by the Eurythmics. Played it in the car so much that my Aquanet-metal loving friends would get violent during any trip that was over a half an hour drive(which was anywhere upstate NY). Soon after that my cousin gave me The Sugarcubes 'Life's Too Good' and 'Peepshow' by Siouxsie And The Banshees. Those got worn out in less than a year(as well as what little patience my friends had left, heh).

The Creatures 'Boomerang' was the last cassette to have been played incessantly before my music collection spun totally out of control to the point where I could no longer focus on any one release.

you know, that remark is totally true. I guess back then, as poor teenagers as we were, being able to afford so few cassettes meant listening to them ad nauseum. I still have my fave CDs now, but can't imagine listening to them "over and over and over" again b/c I have so many others to choose from.

For me it was "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Drove my parents mad with this! [:D]

Album? Landscape - Landscape. Every track on it is fantastic with Wandsworth Plain the stand-out track.

Some songs that I killed through overplay:

Yachts - Suffice to Say
They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse in your Soul
Village People - Can't Stop The Music

When I first started buying my own music many, many years ago the most played were Bowies Diamond Dogs,Alice Coopers best of and one of those K-Tel 20 hits of The Whatever.I remember seeing the Bowie ad for concert in Ottawa and Bowie was on screen saying something like "see you there" and Diamond Dogs was playing in the background
and it blew my mind at 14.I also remember the K-tel ad and hearing that maniacal laugh for the Surfaris-Wipe Out and that blew my mind at 13.Oy vey the fucking memories.

Tori Amos' album- From The Choirgirl Hotel, marked once a very dark period of my life. I remeber having it back then on the cassette and contsantly listenig to it throughout the day for a very long period of time, back in '98.

First record I had on constant repeat was Parallel Lines from Blondie. I would sit in my room with the headphones on, and every time the needle lifted off the vinyl, flip the record over & start it all over again & again & again. I had other favorite albums before that, but nothing that merited me putting on non-stop for weeks.

Like Hexicon, I wondered if Pretty Baby was about Brooke Sheilds. It's one of my absolute favorite songs. I also wondered if Will Anything Happen & Picture This were about Chris Stein...although the thought of watching him shower was something I didn't want to think about!

After that, when I moved to Boston I only had 2 cassettes - Til Tuesday's debut & Kate Bush's Hounds of Love. I listened to them over & over & I really never have gotten sick of them.
