Of course, nothing, no one, can ever ever ever bring my sweetheart back, and no actor really "looks like him" so I hate those conversations. And if he were back, he'd be in bed with me every night [:X] [:X] [:X][;)]

So far the release date is for March and all went well. The only problem I have with it is some music they might use for the soundtrack.

The guy in 24 Hour Party People looked pretty close, IMHO. He certainly had the moves down pat.
On an unrelated note, were/are The Happy Mondays really the big pricks they were portrayed as in that film? Did they really stiff Factory with a vocal-less album, and/or pull a gun on Tony W?

The fact that the Happy Monday's imploded rather quickly would indicate it wasn't exagerated. But I thought Martin Hannett pulled the gun on TW? Who knows, it seems several people may have wanted to shoot him.

But re Control, some of the pirated dailies indicate it'll be quite the light and fun movie rather than something dwelling on Ian's tragedy. Here's some old footage newly overdubbed by New Order to be lighter...

Hi -
The guy in 24H Party People had the moves down but Sam Riley, the actor in this film, has Ian's stage moves & look & presence down to a T, from what I've heard. I also heard that the band who plays Joy Division actually really played their instruments and sounded just like them.

yes alot of the film is full of good laughs, good times and is not so heavy. The reason why is because the movie tries to capture how things really were, and in all honesty, things were not always that heavy. The press needs to create drama. Joy Division were a band always involved in lots of fun, laughs, pranks, and Ian Curtis had a great, dry sense of humor. As a matter of fact, those guys could be pretty disgusting! [8)][:o)].) When his epilepsy kicked in badly then his depression only then really took hold and his personality began to change. Ian had a wonderful life growing up and a middle class family that he had a good relationship with. Ask Ian's girlfriend, and she will tell you how Ian "was not goth at all" and "was always joking."

Good news!
For what it seems, the plot will not be wretched... that was my main fear... but Anton was there so he certainly will not twist reality.

I almost forgot to post these. A dude at MacWorld of all places was talking about these...

...Sam Riley and the rest of "Joy Division" practicing their roles by actually gigging for the locals during the filming of Control. Quality is horrible, but what a eerie likeness, wow.

Please don't put up any spoilers here. I want to be surprised by the ending.

Interesting. Anton's good friend Martin Gore of Depeche Mode helped finance the film.

I so see myself seeing it like 6 times... and getting really bummed after it. Even if I know the ending.

This movie's gonna be a good one.

Didn't one of New Order's members say that he didn't like how Anton was dictating how he wanted the music for the film to be? Aren't they the main ones contributing to it (which would make sense, somehow).

And I imagine Martin Gore has a lot of money to finance such ventures. Writing most of Depeche Mode's songs must have pocketed him a good chunk of change.

Heh, imagine the movie's Ian Curtis starts singing "Somebody" out of nowhere. Product placement...

can't wait for the movie...
was a bit surprised to see Martin part-finance it, but this is definetely brilliant of him - would be so nice if he could do a cover for the soundtrack...
