Very cool. This reads like a who's-who playlist that Otters might put together, one of our resident pop gurus imho. There's almost a parallel universe of these popmeisters that ran (runs) concurrent with new wave, college rock, grunge and other eras but never really crossed over, except maybe a few exceptions like Primal Scream, The Jesus & Mary Chain, etc. They seemed to resolutely remain as non-rock as possible and even celebrated that fact with band names like Milky Wimpshake or Bubblegum Splash and songs like Heavenly Pop Hit or The Girl with the Strawberry Hair, etc. It's cool stuff in doses, but after awhile, all that twee goodness makes me wanna shoot myself.

There are a lot of wonderful pop songs on this compilation.

In 1986, I didn't know any of these bands, now the only one I've not at least heard of is Laugh. I'll definitely pick this up, although I have over half of it already.

They certainly could have chosen a better Mighty Mighty track.

It can have that effect, even to a obsessive pop kidlike myself.

That's when the Stooges are put on the stereo.
