Is there such thing as a "good" Simple Minds song?

Is there such thing as a "good" Simple Minds song?

Postby DevoManiac101 » Mon Nov 06, 2006 8:50 am

I just realized Simple Minds really suck aside from "Promised You A Miracle" I mean, "Don't You Forget About Me" is OK but that is a soundtrack song so that doesn't really count.

I remember thinking I would like "Love Song" when I purchased Classic Alternatives vol. 4 a while back, TERRIBLE! Then I just heard this God awful song on XM Fred called "This Is Your Land" but I think the worst yet has to be "Speed Your Love To Me"

Would somebody here like to recommend a song in the similar vein of "Promised You A Miracle" because The Minds are doing ZIP for me as of now.

I really appreciate all your recommendations on China Crisis when I asked a while back, good stuff there!

I loved the whole "Sparkle in the Rain" album.
But my two favorite Simple Minds songs are:

"I Travel"
"New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84)

If you want to have a listen to these two, let me know.

Nor on Empires and Dance. IMHO it was all downhill from Don't You.. on.

Even the earliest releases (Chelsea Girl, Life In A Day) are pretty good (after Johnny and the Self Abusers that is).

J, my buddy, you are missing out. Check out:

Someone Somewhere In Summertime
Glittering Prize
New Gold Dream
Upon The Catwalk
Speed Your Love To Me
Waterfront

These are all similar in style to Promised You A Miracle.

"The American"...fantastic. But if you can't appreciate Sparks' "Sherlock Holmes", I'm afraid there's no hope for you. [:D]

I know you asked for individual songs, but I can recommend almost anything off the following albums:

"New Gold Dream" is a new wave classic...start to finish. "Sparkle In The Rain" is also chock full of great tunes.

Finally, "Street Fighting Years" (with "This Is Your Land"!) is my 3rd favorit Simple Minds album. It's got a different sound than their early work, but also works well as an entire album.

Yup marie! It's a great SIMPLE MINDS album. On one occassion it became the highest selling VINYL RECORD in MANILA according to the stats conducted by JINGLE MAGAZINE right MIKEY. "Promise You A Miracle" is also my favourite song from the band.

Obviously, people didn't care about taking your own tastes into consideration before making recommendations.

I remember thinking I would like "Love Song" when I purchased Classic Alternatives vol. 4 a while back, TERRIBLE! Then I just heard this God awful song on XM Fred called "This Is Your Land" but I think the worst yet has to be "Speed Your Love To Me"

Love Song is from Sons and Fascination and Speed Your Love to Me is from Sparkle in the Rain.

Sons was their last experimental style album, and Sparkle was the start of their stadium rock sound. The one in between, which most think is their finest hour, was New Gold Dream.
