I was wondering if anyone has bought the PIL vinyl reissue of Metal Box. I was looking for bargins in the soon defunct Tower Records and saw that they had it. Any one gave it a spin yet?

I wasn't even aware of this. Thanks for the heads-up-- I should look for it.

For what it's worth, I'm a poor sod with a cassette copy of Second Edition, having missed out on the oringinal release. And I wish my tape deck was working.

I still have my original "Metal Box" from back in the day (and it's started to rust in areas, I don't know if this will be a problem with the reissue). It is a pain taking the records out of that thing, and not much is offered as far as inner packaging goes. In my quest to upgrade from vinyl to CD, I did get the "Metal Box" CD (at Tower Records incidentally, but not as part of the going-out-of-business sale). Much easier to handle one CD than 3 records, and if you've heard "Second Edition", you're familiar with the music already. But if you like the novelty of the package itself, why not go for it?

One of the reasons the album was packaged this way was because Johnny Lydon thought it would be the ultimate in protection for the vinyl.

Thanks Skinnytie.
Is the sound quality of the Metal Box CD reissue any good. I looked at it as a novelty thing seeing as how I did miss it's first release.

The ultimate vinyl protection huh? That sounds a bit suspect to me [;)]

I thought the sound quality was fine to the CD. I'm not really picky about the sound when listening to CD's, but there are a couple of them that make me say this thing should be remastered (the "Metal Box" reissue wasn't one of them). However, the PIL "Live in Tokyo" CD can do with some remastering; I think that the vinyl sounds better for that release.
