Great Song, Bad Lyrics

Postby empyrean » Wed Dec 27, 2006 10:55 pm

Any New Wave music that has a great melody, good tune but has lyrics that has no sense at all.

Kinda Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.

How about Five Get Over Excited by The Housemartins? [:D][:D]

Anything by The Smiths. Ba dum bum.

But seriously, Wire's "Kidney Bingos" lyrics are pathetic, even when taken as a joke. There are no words to describe how much that melody did not get the words it deserved.

I mentioned it in another thread, but the Motels "Take the L" is one that comes to mind. Great melody, great verses then that stupid chorus..."Take the L out of Lover & it's over." Even the video was awesome with the comic book panels and the retro-style bright colors. Ugh.

Not New Wave but Next Wave... the lyrics to Sweet Troubled Soul by Stellastarr are just hideous.

Duran Duran's Wild Boys... maybe with another lyrics it would have been a way better song.

Agree on that opinion about Housemartin's lyrics to Five Get Over Excited.

These lyrics make me cringe:

From "Ballet Dancer" by The Twins

"I know your
Body small and neat
Dancing on
Your dancing feet"

Yeah, english isn't their first language, but they could have done better than this.

The rest of the song is great, though.
