New Wave dance music to get the boody shakin'

Alright guys,

Here's the deal. I've got a wedding coming up soon and, since I actually have pull, I just can't let the reception party music turn into another case of "Been There Done That" overplayed 70s disco and Kool and the Gang.

No, I want to do it right, so I'm coming to the trusted NWO for help on good 80s New Wave that will get people in the mood to shake their thang. I certainly have my own ideas, but I was wondering, what would be your ideal New Wave wedding party dance party mix? Sorry there's no prize for this or anything cool for participating, other than maybe the satisfaction to know that there will be at least one reception party out there that won't be full of sucky music. TIA and all that.

Well, there I go running my mouth off before checking the forum and seeing Highway1pch's post.

Still, any ideas specific to the occasion would be welcome...

THanks for the mention. I too was tired of hearing Celebration over and over again. That's why I started working on that disc over a year ago. It's been a real hit at the four parties I've used it at.

Here are some choice cuts for the occasion:

ABC The Look Of Love - Anything by ABC for that matter
Bananarama Venus - Girls love music by girl bands
Billy Idol Rebel Yell - Just don't play White Wedding!
Depeche Mode Just Can't Get Enough - Just avoid Master and Servant for this party
DEVO Girl U Want - Isn't she?
Duran Duran Hungry Like The Wolf - You can't go wrong with Duran Duran
Eddy Grant Electric Avenue - Take Electric Avenue and avoid Funkytown!
Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - Always dancable
Falco Rock Me Amadeus (US Salieri Version) - Very kitchy and very fun!
General Public Hot You're Cool - General Public is right at the top
General Public Tenderness - And this cut is probably most crucial
INXS Never Tear Us Apart - Everyone knows INXS after Rockstar
Soft Cell Tainted Love - Hmm...maybe try "What?" instead
Spandau Ballet "True" - If you must use True
Spandau Ballet To Cut A Long Story Short - Then cut that long story short!
The B-52's Party Out Of Bounds - Make sure to add a helping of Rock Lobster to the reception menu
The Bangles Walk Like An Egyptian - Do I need to explain?
The Blow Monkeys Digging Your Scene - Maybe add Tin Tin's Kiss Me for good measure
The Cars You Might Think I'm Crazy - Call me crazy but I think this is the best love letter from The Cars
The Go-Go's Head Over Heals - Anything Go-Go's works at a wedding!
The Human League (Keep Feeling) Fascination - 80s Human League always works
The Romantics What I Like About You - At least most know the words
Tom Tom Club Genius Of Love - So much sampling makes this a familiar tune to most
Yazoo Only You - This one's a keeper: Maybe for the first dance?
Are you gettin' married or are you the DJ? Maybe the Wedding Singer? Congrats anyway!!
When the mrs & I got married, we met with the DJ a month prior and gave him two lists: the Play list & the Do Not Play list. He obliged, and we had a great party for our reception.
Songs that I remember were It Must Be Love (Madness) and Message of Love (Pretenders).

getting married, and "It Must Be Love" is a fine choice! Also, that's probably a good idea, too, a Do Not Play list.

And thanks for your suggestions, Hwy1. I think we're on the same page with a lot of these.

Naked Eyes - "Always Something There To Remind Me"

just familiar enough, dancey enough, and lyrically suitable enough for a wedding reception [:)]

No real wedding until the marrying couple dances "The safety dance", from Men Without Hats.

Or was it a vals, they should dance?
