Pretty obvious for me (being a DM devtotee) it's DM.. let me hear any objections? why and how? and who's your pick? ciao..

Strictly New Wave? I'd say Depeche Mode. Followed closely by Duran Duran.

My favorite? a-ha. (They veered away from New Wave by their fourth album.)

It's THRILLING! It's GLORIFICENT! It's the best thing to happen to the Internet since the New Wave Outpost! Click away and taste unbridled euphoria!

Hmm
I am just thinking of who was 'Big' in my part of the world at that time, rather than suggesting my personal fave. Its important to note that Big NW acts Down Under may indeed differ to elsewhere. For example.. The Cars, though having some charting tracks were never really massive down here, yet I have learnt through NWO that the Cars were indeed massive and important in the US.

Any one of:

Duran Duran
Spandau Ballet (its sad but true!! [:D])
INXS
Adam and the Ants

In light of the above not really adhering to the definitive nature of this Topic, then; If I am voting as per my personal perspectives, then I would single out Duran Duran, period.

Got that right fellow devotee.. Duran duran- first come to mind when new wave music is a subject.. they were the biggest at one point.. but they crumble.. DM took-over w/ a little help from U2.. But, what the heck do I know?

If any other New wave (have-been New wave) bands can top this:

DM's New wave resume
- New life
- Just can't get enough
- See you
- Get the balance right
- Everything counts
- People are people
- Master and Servants
- Somebody
- Shake the disease
- Black celebration
- Question of lust
- Question of time
- Strangelove
- Never let me down
- Behind the wheel
- Personal Jesus
- Enjoy the silence
- World in my eyes

Synth-Rock/Electronic blues
- I feel you
- Walking in my shoes
- Condemantion
- In your room
- Barrel of a gun
- It's no good
- Home
- Only when I loose myself
- Dream on
- I feel loved
- Free love
- Precious
- Suffer well
- Pain the I'm used to be
- John the revelator

pretty impressive.. Which other (new wave)band would go on a (mostly sold-out) world tour? they're just gettin' better and better..
yet there still underground to the mainstream..

My Top 10 NW bands:

01) Soft Cell
02) New Musik
03) Y.M.O. (Yellow Magic Orchestra)
04) Simple Minds (up until 1984)
05) Cocteau Twins
06) Yazoo ('Yaz' for the Usa)
07) Wolfgang Press
08) Depeche Mode
09) Dead Can Dance
10) Human League

But this is from my 'European perspective' ... as most people on this forum approach it from a more 'Usa perspective' i guess.
Cheers !.

Hi there Anonymous.

The Wild Swans is considered New Wave in our country. Consider these:

Paul Simpson is formerly of Care along with Ian Broudie who is associated with Big In Japan, Echo And The Bunnymen, Icicle Works and now, with The Lightning Seeds. He's also in Wild Swans second album Space Flower.

Former Lotus Eaters Kelly (or is it Coyle?) played bass in the Wild Swans 1st album.

Well, i guess some New WAve bands here are not New Wave in other countries. [;)][:D]
