In one night, I heard the the "Melt with you" GMC commercial from the other post.
As well as : The The's "This is the day" (M & M's), Buzzcocks "Everybody's happy nowadays" (AARP...how sad)
oh yeah ..Joan Jett for Orange county choppers
& was that really "Sa plan por moi" in the burger commercial???WTF!!

Anyone hear others?

That is a cover of "Ça Plane Pour Moi", but I didn't catch that it was for a burger commercial.

You'll have to ask the marketers, but it appears we're being targeted!

So, do we New Wave fans truly have the spending capital and power they so crave? I thought we blew it all on out-of-print vinyl and CDs on E-Bay.

Yeah, there's a Fidelity Investments advert with "Der Kommisar" playing in the background. I don't understand the use of this piece of music - there is no connection whatsoever of the ad itself to the music or the lyrics of the song. How does this happen? What creative process do advertising people use that would possibly link the sale of long term investment planning to Der Kommisar???

The current youth culture is bankrupt, that's why.

I've seen this ad and you're right- it doesn't jibe. So disturbing. Makes you wonder if we're not doing enough to support our bands and they are having to resort to these unsavory money making sources.

Maybe we should start a fund like BandAid! lol

Okay, I did a little research and found a great site for everyone here to check out: http://www.songtitle.info/

It has songs for commercials listed through 2002. I think most of them are posted by "volunteers", but it's pretty comprehensive.

I was surprised that CitiBank had one from Camper Van Beethoven for "Guardian Angels". I think it would have been more fun if they'd used my personal favorite: "Take the Skinheads Bowling". Hee hee.

Over here in Australia we had "Counting the Beat" - The Swingers for Kmart
"Just Can't Get Enough" - Depeche Mode for Telstra (Phone Company)

and if TragigMagic is out there he can post a couple more I'm sure! [:D]

You know what really bugs me? The new Old Navy commercial tune is an obvious knock-off of "My Cherona". You shouldn't mess with what is already perfection, especially when it's an icon! Also, I don't think Old Navy would even bother using it if they used the original lyrics. Especially with the chicks they have strutting around on the commercial. Has anybody else seen this commercial?

Wish I could get back those 4 mins. I just wasted on GE locomotives. Too bad there not making green-fuel burning alternatives, or overhead (electric) ones...

I just saw a VW commercial with a cover version of Safety Dance being used while the Jetta darts in and out of traffic.

I saw a commercial during '24' tonight (I think for Volvo) that was using Let's Go by the Feelies.
