Has anyone found that they have a 12" mix of an 80s song since it first came out that they love (doesn't have to be restricted to new wave), yet despite numerous CD compilations and collections featuring 12" mixes of the same song, they are just never the mix that you have??? These are a couple I can think of that I have on vinyl that I have yet to find on CD:

1) I have a version of "Fade to Grey" by Visage on one of those dance classics labels. I also have at least 2 or 3 12" mixes on a host of CDs, but NONE of them is this mix.

2) The mix I have of "Jukebox" by the Flirts runs the same length as the one that appears on every CD with a 12" mix, yet it's a different (and I personally feel way better) 12" mix.

Is that Fade To Grey the extended version that sounds like starts off like the album version but is much longer? The regular 12" version starts off totally different.

Two for starters...

'If There's A Heaven Above' by Love and Rockets - despite having been included on a later re-issue of 'Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven' and purported to be the 12" mix, it most definitely isn't - I wrote about it in an article on my blog @ http://www.versioncrazy.com/2010/03/27/ ... ven-on-cd/

'In A Lonely Place' by New Order - same story as above, the version that appeared on CD on 'Substance' and subsequently is not the same as the vinyl 12" mix I have

yep, totally. I believe that's the one. That's why it's my favorite, because I consider it the official 'extended album version' of Fade to Grey. Any insight into where the heck it comes from?

What is the running time for this version?
I believe the version described was released on this CDM:

It begins like the album/single mix and then at about the 3 minute mark, this version is edited so that another verse kicks in and the version is extended out to 6:17.

This mix has a running tome of 6:22, however it is essentially an edit of the regular 12" version with an early fade-out for some reason.

Great topic! Correct me if I'm wrong(and I know you will), but the import version of Freur's Doot Doot has not appeared on anything that I know of. The main synth part is different, but I have not heard it on anything other than on my vinyl.

That version of Fade To Grey shows up on a compilation. I'll let you know shortly Budaniel.

Another one for me is Telegraph by OMD. I have a 12" vinyl version that runs 4:45. The 12" mix on the reissue of Dazzle Ships and so80s is a different mix and runs 5:35.

Oh I have dozens. Remember that record companies - in the UK particular - cottoned on to the fact that they could release a second, and often third different 12" single for many of their releases in order to improve sales. Many of the remixes have never made cd.
