Stock Aitken Waterman, Bobby O...who has an affection for the pulsing bass, orchestral stabs and horn pads? Some Hi-NRG crossover new wave appeal (Divine, Dead or Alive, Bronksi Beat), but I love all of it. Some favorites include Stacey Q's 'solo' career (although she was still working with SSQ bandmate Jon St. James), Bardeaux (produced by St. James and sounding pretty much exactly like Stacey Q), the entire SAW produced Donna Summer album, The Flirts, Robert Parker, and the harder SAW productions remixed by Phil Harding (The tracks mixed by Pete Hammond were usually for the more commercial/dance/house sounds like Rick Astley).

I recently discovered for myself Nick John (Lost in a Dream, Planet Nine)... awesome US Hi-Nrg produced at Megatone Records... and the guy has a bit of angsty New Wave feel in his vocals,[:D]

also love stuff from Passion Records, like Astaire, Angie Gold and People like Us for example

Canadian Hi Nrg was also great like Tapps and Lime...

yeah I like 80's Hi-Nrg music, it was fun [:D]

Have you ever heard any Modern Rocketry? They are such an all over the place group--some freestyle, some high-pitched Flirts type stuff, some synthpop male vocal stuff with a very new wave feel.

And then there's Evelyn Thomas's 'High Energy with that Frankie 'Relax' bass line!

funny. between the Megatone compilations and the blanco y negro "I Love Disco" compilations, I think I have every single Nick John released. I was just listening to "All I Want is You" on my ipod.

I love Hi-NRG from the 1980s....so much so I wrote a whole load about it in 'Is that The 12" Mix'. Megatone put out three fantastic 2cd sets of their 12" singles a few years back, and there are 'best of' compilations from virtually all of the major Hi-NRG labels from the US and Europe (Passion, Record Shack, etc)

Evelyn Thomas' High Energy has a 'In the Navy' beat if you listen carefully. Producer Ian Levine at his finest ! I've managed to track down almost all Record Shack releases before their demise.

German act 'Fancy' is my all time Hi-NRG favourite, 'Slice Mme Nice, Bolero' and all that

what's so disappointing is that if you didn't by all those "Hot Productions" CDs when they originally came out in the 90s, when you buy them 'new' now...you're getting a CDR instead of the real manufactured CD deal. Such a shame. I would have rathered they had just gone out of print so you could guarantee you'd get an official CD if you picked it up on the used market.

yeah I have a few Hot productions cd's from Bobby O (Flirts, Oh Romeo), and some of them are on CD-R. That sucks...

Modern Rocketry is another neat band that had a lot of NW vibe [:D]

Artists from Continental Europe such as Fancy mentioned above, Mike Mareen, Den Harrow, Ken Laszlo, Baltimora and plethora of others I always considered Eurodisco and Italo. Stuff coming from UK/US is Hi-Nrg.... but that's just labels I guess

Shep Pettibone remixes are also great, like for example this Elton John one for "I Dont Wanna Go On With You Like That" [:D]

that one's produced by Stock Aitken Waterman--there's a 12" also. I think he only recorded one more song in 89, not produced by SAW though.

I've also been told there was an actual video made, but it's not on youtube at the moment
