What Artists ar Carrying On New Wave?
Posted: Tue May 31, 2011 9:03 pmI heard the new ARCADE FIRE track with David Byrne guesting on it on Sirius XMU yesterday, and thought about the bands that still fit with "New Wave" over the past 20 years.
In the 90's, WLIR's successor WDRE withered on the vine, as other than BEN FOLDS and BARENAKED LADIES, few "alternative" bands really fit with the "classic" New Wave they built the playlist on.
Around 2003, a ton of "new-wave" sounding bands emerged, including THE KILLERS, FRANZ FERDINAND, KAISER CHIEFS, HOT HOT HEAT, FUTUREHEADS, DOGS DIE IN HOT CARS & BLOC PARTY, but it seems that wave has slowed a little.
I only recently listened to the STELLASTARR* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0FcXFp85aY) CD's this year, having missed them on the back-end of that 2003 wave, and hope they are still an ongoing band.
I like "alternative" acts NEW PORNOGRAPHERS, THE NATIONAL, MY MORNING JACKET, REGINA SPEKTOR, SPOON and LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, but always want to hear more, so...What are your recommendations for "new wavy" current bands?
