What are some movies that have new wave soundtracks or a style similar to new wave music?

Some I can think of:

Valley Girl
The Wedding Singer
Donnie Darko
Tron
Romy and Michele
All the John Hughes teen movies

lately VH1 has been showing a lot of Just One of the Guys...good totally 80's flick, seems it hasn't been shown on TV in a while.. [:D]

I remember seeing it at a budget theater when it came out. The consensus at the time was that it was pretty good. I still remember some scenes from it, e.g., one guy saying he liked to dance like James Brown.

I think "Times Square" had a New Wave soundtrack.I've never seen the movie,but there were a few UK New Wavers on the soundtrack.

I always thought of 'Breaking Glass' as New Wave, but it may also be seen as Punk. My favourite song from the movie 'Eight Day' seems more New Wave.

I always thought that Streets of Fire had a rock a billy vibe and a great scene with the Blasters playing in a dive bar

Scandalous with Robert Hays and John Gielgud had Bow Wow Wow in the film

A seriously bad flick that still has not achieved DVD release possibly due to copyrights on the songs was Surf 2. Anyone who wants to see how silly these films got by then should try to find a VHS of this flick starring Eddie Deezen, already making this perfect viewing for all 80's fans.

Throw in some class oldies and you have a good soundtrack!

It's release was a perfect example of being there too late. Filmed in the Summer of '83, making this a perfect capture of that era in it's last days, it escaped in Jan. of '84, the worst time for something like this that would have been perfect for the Drive Ins that were already closing up or only showing major films that year.

In other words, essential for all of the right reasons.

Der Formel Eins Film...better known to you and me as Feel the Motion from 1985.

Directed by Wolfgang Buld, who Directed the Cult favorite Punk in London, this is a step into the Post New Wave Mid-80's Synth Pop world that falters (Buld was more successful in Documenting Berlin's Underground scene in Berlin Now that year Co-Directed by this films's star Sissy Kelling). The plot involves a woman mechanic - shades of Crown International's Tomboy - who wants to make it big in the music scene who has a boyfriend that thinks the music stars are dating her. New Wave fans might want to check this out for Limhal, the Flirts, and Falco ("Rock Me Amadeus" is featured).

Buld's Punk history led for the casting of Die Toten Hosen in this film, but otherwise, it's pretty mainstream elsewhere - Pia Zaroda and Meat Loaf are there. Released in the Summer of '85, when the party was winding down, this received a theatrical release in Germany, but wound up in The States in a Vidmark VHS that some Mom and Pop stores had which filled the shelves and rented to only a few (Myself included).

Can't not mention the fantastic 'Hunting Venus' here. Human League, Duran Duran, Japan, OMD and of course, the great new-wave-throwback tune 'Starburst'!
