The Newport Beach Film Festival screened film, "Vinyl", is a fictional account of how Alarm frontman Mike Peters pulled a hoax on the record industry.

Peters re-formed the Alarm in 2004, cut a song and shopped it to the band's old record label, only to be told the group was "too old" for today's audiences. A record exec told Peters: "Signing a band over 30 is like watching your parents have sex."

So, Peters hired five 17-year-olds in Wales to pose as a band that would lip sync his song. And the music business actually fell for it before Peters wickedly exposed the lie as a comment on the industry.

sad since the Alarm now is 10X better then any band on the radio today

I agree. No need to turn on the radio to find out, I'll take your word for it.

I used to get a kick whenever I heard a New Wave Band like the Smiths or XTC on the radio. Now I hear them in the grocery store and in restaurants.

I had heard of this, didn't know it was finished.
