The fest will feature 300 bands – some familiar in hardcore circles, others getting their first crack at opening for a headliner – at a string of participating venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

was at the Bowery Electric tonight and saw Walter Steding (and Crazy Mary), The Miamis and Tuff Darts.
Walter Steding was great - I was surprised by Miamis (not what I expected). Tuff Darts stayed true to their roots. Stayed for "Nuclear Waste".

Twas good to see you Schwenko. Also caught my favorite locals The Secret History at Cafe Wha. The rest is kinda retread stuff from SXSW.

"On Thursday night at Bowery Electric about a block north of where CBGB stood, musicians who had performed regularly in the earliest years of CBGB shared a lengthy bill. Some were still pugnacious, like the band Certain General, playing its angular post-punk as the singer Parker Dulany stalked the stage with hollow-eyed intensity. And some had mellowed. After midnight a slight, gray-bearded man with a mandolin took the stage: Tommy Ramone, the last survivor of the original Ramones, leading Uncle Monk, his duo with an acoustic guitarist. Partway through the rural-flavored set, he said, “We’d like to do a little song that I wrote when I was very young.†It was the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,†redone Appalachian-style. All these years later CBGB was finally getting its bluegrass."

Exciting information!Tommy Mandel (Bryan Adams fame) came from Miamis and sometime i must purscase to their retrospective.Tuff Darts were also a tremendous very early cbgb's band,with Jeff Salen(r.i.p)going to Sparks in 1977 for the album Big Beat,and Johnny Morelli to Blue Angel-the loungy new wave band of Cindy Lauper.Is Tommy Frenzy still with them?
