New Wave Outpost Forum

Hi everyone! My name is Silvina Hernandez and I'm 23. I'm from Montevideo in Uruguay (a very small country in South America). I started listening to 80s music 4 years ago when I discovered Blondie, Madonna and, a few months later, Madness, which is now my favourite band.
I seem to discover a "new" New Wave band every few months (that's why I never get to complete an artist discography) but Madness remains my favourite (it's the only band of which I got their entire discography). My latest "discovery" was U2 (of course I already knew most of their singles, but never bothered to download any until a few weeks ago and, I've got to say that their early singles are the best).
Some of the New Wave or 80s bands that I like are: Madness, The Go Go's, Madonna, Blondie, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, OMD, Split Enz, Altered Images, ABC, Fiction Factory, The Selecter.
And the few songs I know by: Ultravox, The Specials, The Jam, The Human League, Talk Talk, Propaganda, Icicle Works.

As a sidenote: prior to discovering 80s music, when I was in my teens, I was a big Pearl Jam fan (it's not that I think their music is terrible now, it's just that I've moved on and now I prefer less depressing music).

Welcome to the Outpost. Although we aren't as busy as we once were, you can learn about a wide-ranging plethora of music here, from the 70s and 80s to the present day. Have fun[:)]

Welcome Silvina, well you have come to the right place.There are many people here to assist you into the introduction of 80's music. We have the station KROQ that represented the west coast, many uploaded tapes from the 80's on this website search and of course, ahem ahem{clearing my throat} my vintage tapes from a very popular station WLIR/WDRE that represented many new wave bands on the east coast and The many wonderful other people on this website that uploaded their WLIR tapes and other radio stations music..you have a lot of catching up to do..enjoy and once again welcome to NWO.

Thanks. I don't know anyone my age who likes (or even knows about) 80s music. Here in my country most people my age listen to shit music. It's sad. I consider myself to have a good music taste and I always have. When I was in high school I was one of the few who listened to 90s rock and now I'm one of the few who listen to 80s music. I guess I'm part of a special group now. I whish I was born in the 60s or 70s so that I could have enjoyed the 80s. I envy all of you. [:)]

Fantastic Silvina,
I'm in Costa Rica for my winter get-a-way. I lived the scene in the 80's in my teens/20's and I still discover new bands or songs from that era today that excite me. No matter where one's knowledge is or quantity of that movement, we share the connection of that individualism that made the Wave scene unique.

That's a lot of songs. I did a quick read of the list and I found many of my favourite songs in it but, of course there are many songs I have never heard (I think I'm going to start searching for those songs on Youtube). As wormster said, I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks. I have a lot of catching up to do, indeed. I'm sure I'll discover other great bands here.
PS:Do you mean that there are recordings of old radio shows here? I'd love to hear them.
