My 80s record collection
Posted: Thu Nov 29, 2012 8:09 amI bought my first album (by a local hard rock band called La Trampa) when I was 14 but I really started buying albums the following year when I bought Riot Act by Pearl Jam. I became such a big fan of the band that I ended up buying all their albums. In the following years I bought albums by Nirvana, No Doubt, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Green Day.
But then in 2008 I discovered a free dowloading site called Ares. At first, I dowloaded songs by Pearl Jam and No Doubt and other 90s acts.
But about 2 months later I discovered 80s music. The first songs I dowloaded were by Madness, Madonna and Blondie and I put them into a CD making a sort of "best of the 80s" album. In the following 4 years I made 25 of them, mixing songs by artists of different generes.
But I always wanted to have orginal CDs. So one day last January I was at a record shop and came across several albums by bands (Pet Shop Boys, New Order) I was into. After spending a few minutes deciding which New Order I was going to buy, I chose International.
Less than 2 weeks later I bought Celebration (the 2 CD deluxe edition, which was a bargain) by Madonna just because I wanted to have all of their hits in just one CD with good sound quality. .
Then in March I bought Greatest Hits by Blondie as I was/am very fond of thier singles (I think they are one of the greatest singles bands ever) which I already had on mp3, of course.
Then a few months later I bought Waiting For The Sirens Call by New Order, which I had been wanting to buy for a long time even when I didn't know any of the songs on it. I really liked it at first and I still do but I don't listen to it that much now (I've been listening to International more instead).
My next purchase was PopArt by the Pet Shop Boys, which is a killer greatest hits album and which I listened to it a lot in the month following its purchase.
The last album I bought was the debut album by Madonna (which I had on mp3) which I bought (because it was a bargain) and which I haven't listened to that much.
Well, I know that most of these albums weren't relesed in the 80s but most of the songs on them were.
The reason behind these purcahses was having all the songs of a particular artist on just one CD with good sound quality whenever I wanted to hear it. My intention is to keep adding original 80s albums to my colection. I'm just starting.
