There is a too much to choose from. I know I'd put these on the list for 100% certain:

The Comsat Angels, 'Sleep No More'
The Sound, 'From the Lions Mouth'
U2, 'October'

It gets really hard to pick the other 7 because there are so many great candidates.

I thought that too. I could have easily picked 20 great albums. I fear when they get to 1982 & 1983 I will have to make some hard choices.

I used to get a kick whenever I heard a New Wave Band like the Smiths or XTC on the radio. Now I hear them in the grocery store and in restaurants.

I did a first pass through and did about seven I thought were really representative of the era and then selected three more. 84 on is going to be hard, because I'll feel personally invested in many of those.

My first impression? Laaaaame. I think only two of my picks ended up in the top 10. You'd do better to start at #100 and read from the bottom up (seriously).

p.s. "Sleep No More" #62? Bullshit!

Is it really lame though? That's about what I would have expected from the broader populace. If the the NWO albums lists were fairly generic. I just think people tend to pick the big signature "new wave" albums. The real interesting stuff has always been in the wealth of cool individual tracks that folks come up with and of course the cool stuff lower down the lists.

Point taken. On the other hand, don't you think The Cure's "Faith" is a pretty lame pick for THE best album of 1981?
