If this is the last of For Against, let it be known that they were the finest independent band the US has ever produced and that their recorded legacy is among the most criminally underrated and unknown outside their cult fanbase. Their recorded output is among the finest ever put to tape and it's a shame they never were able to break through into mainstream glory.

Great post Down Under. Ain't never heard of these guys before now but I'm enjoying what I hear.

It's really hard to pick their best albums, but for me it's Coalesced.

Rounding out the top-5: December, Aperture, Masons California Lunchroom and Echelons.

I was under the impression that they had already broken up. Guess I was mistaken!

Runnings is tough on his own work. I feel sorry for him--the best music to come from America (I said it and I'll defend it), barely anyone's heard it, and he doesn't seem happy with how it sounds. I imagine he's got a bit of a perfectionist streak that keeps him from being content with his stuff...

All their work is brilliant, but Echelons and December have to be be my favorites because of Greg Hill's drumming.

Words on Music were going to release a series of EPs of their early demos, but they've only released Black Soap so far, so I imagine that's done with. I wish someone would put Mason's and Shelf Life back in print.

I too am wondering what has become of the EP series. Aperture is also out of print. I've queried Words On Music about remastering these but they haven't been successful to this point (licensing?)

I would like to believe Captured Tracks or even LTM may eventually reissue these or perhaps the reactivated IPR? Criminal they've been out of print for this long as they are all works of brilliance.
