another UB40 passing Astro
Posted: Sun Nov 07, 2021 10:19 amIt is a shame that Astro has passed away. I liked the first two UB40 albums and saw them live, I think it was 1982. But when UB40 got more popular I was one of those snooty elitist types who accused them of 'selling out' , which I sincerely regret now.
UB 40 were very important-along with Bob Marley- in getting roots reggae and even dub over to a much larger audience. Before Youtube, Spotify, Bandcamp etc, here in England it was often difficult to get to hear reggae. DJ John Peel would play some . If one lived in a more multi-cultural area there were more local clubs or even pirate radio which played it. RIP Astro.
