This is making the rounds on Clash blogs and was mentioned in my local newspaper as "the big reunion of 2006". Anyone know if it's been confirmed. Dignity is dead if it's the real deal:

Nearly 23 years since the release of the original group's swan song, Combat Rock, and a scant two years since the death of figurehead Joe Strummer, The Clash are reforming for another go at world domination. When guitarist Mick Jones walked away in late 1982, he knew it wasn't forever.

" I was talking to Paul just the other day, and we were saying how The Clash really defined us as people, not to just the world, but to ourselves as well. I thought we had proven all we had to prove, but when you look at how Joe really kept pushing that rock up the hill, it was really naïve for us to think we could ever stop."

Unofficially dubbed the Lightning Strikes (Not Once But Twice) Tour, The Clash will reform with Rancid front man Tim Armstrong for a series of dates through the United States, Canada, and concluding in the United Kingdom. No details as to when and where it will start, though Jones hinted, "I'd really like to visit New York City again."

Bay area punkers Rancid have been Clash fans for years, and have often seemed to embody the sound and spirit of The Clash. Armstrong's Hellcat label has included Strummer's Mescaleros on many of its budget priced compilations, though Armstrong is reticent to dub Rancid a "Clash tribute".

Please God, stop this now. I was never a big Clash fan, but this is sacrilege.

Is it April 1???

What's next, "Plasmatics reform with Britny Spears as lead vocalist?"

But, we forget the power of the almighty Dollar (And/or Pound).

Why don't they just get Shane MacGowan to sing? Didn't Strummer fill in for him with the Pogues when he was, uh, laid up? What's fair is fair!

Maybe Todd Rundgren is available, too. What the heck.

My hopes for a Clash reunion died in 2002.

I've always thought Tim Armstrong's voice to be a dead ringer for Strummer, though. They've certainly picked the right guy, in this case.

If it's true, they really don't need to do this.

I emailed the guy who wrote the Sun Times bit, asked him where he got the info. Paul said before the R&R HOF induction that there would be no reunion no matter what, so I don't get it. Also, they can't use Topper because last I heard he was kicked out of the US forever...in any case if it happens I'll skip it. The Clash died December 22, 2002.

At this point I would'nt be surprised. It seems like everyone is jumping on the 80's reunion bandwagon. BTW: New Order are going to be releasing new music as Joy Division for an Ian Curtis film according to NME.

F Mick Jones if thats true. Why doesnt he just stick to sampling Clash songs for BAD VII? Maybe he can get another Stuttering John lookalike to rap about raves! Tim Armstrong is a cheap Joe Strummer knock off and always has been. Maybe Paul and Ringo should get Bryan Adams and Slash together for a Beatles tour!

Of course if this isnt true, sorry Mick, im a big fan[;)]

Tim Armstrong still sucks....

It,s like I said in the Cars reforming post,it is bored older musicians who pander to bored older fans who are willing to spend
thier cash to go see them.I have been a clash fan since 1977,saw them
once in 82 and agree they were officialy done in 02.I do like Rancid
and in theory it may work, but if they come to a city near by I will
pass.Who,s drumming?

It's not enough that he had to ruin Pink's career -- now he has to destroy The Clash's, too?

Methinks somebody needs to sic some real gangsters & thugs on this poseur's ass.

These kind of reunions wouldn't be so prevelant if there was any good acts coming out today. For there to be an audience for a partial Cars reunion act or Clash act says little for whats being pushed on the charts these days. And with few exceptions (Kraftwerk, Steely Dan) acts from yesteryear don't have the same spark that made them stand out anymore. Call it the aging process, or lack of hunger(been there done that) or a natural creative span that only lasts a few years. I feel sorry for music fans in ten-fifteen years that will have to settle for a Third Eye Blind or Barenaked Ladies reunion.

From Wikipedia.com:

In late 2005, rumours abounded that Tim Armstrong would replace the late Joe Strummer in a reunion of the British Punk band The Clash. These, however, have since been dismissed as untrue. Mick Jones, lead guitarist of The Clash, has said that he has always been opposed to a reunion and these claims are simply wrong. The rumors stemmed from a news site that posted an April Fool's joke that was then perpetuated by people unaware of the posting date.

from Jim DeRogotis, who wrote the piece in the Chicago Sun Times:

Wayne -- That information had come from PauseandPlay.com, which is
usually the most reliable site on the net for release dates of new
albums. They had that listed, but it appears that they were suckered by an Internet rumor.

Can you point me to someplace I can find an article on this or is it more word of mouth in the industry? In any case, it's revolting, though Tim Armstrong does sound like JS at times...
