Hello fellow New Wave nerds(that's not an insult),

I'm new to the site and thought I'd find out what some of you consider to be the best new wave b-sides. Maybe I'll find out about a few gems that I didn't know of.

Some of mine...
OMD-Her Body In My Soul (Locomotion)
Depeche Mode-Sea Of Sin (World In My Eyes)
Naked Eyes-A Very Hard Act To Follow (Promises,Promises)
New Order-1963 (True Faith)
Erasure-Push Me,Shove Me (Who Needs Love Like That)
The Cure-Throw Your Foot (The Caterpillar)

Definitely Sea of Sin, but also:

The Cure - Too Late (Love Song)
Morrissey - Sister, Im a Poet (Everyday is like Sunday)
Depeche Mode - Dangerous (Personal Jesus)
The Mission UK - Hands Across the Ocean (I think it was a B-Side)

Here was a thread I started on the subject when I was just a newbie here (wow, close to 2 years ago!). There's a lot of good b-sides listed on it, you might want to take a gander at it:

Is that Nik Kershaw b-side "Dark Glasses" available anywhere? I have most all of his stuff and didn't know about that one.

The title is "Beat My Guest," and I agree that it is a great one!

A Flock Of Seagulls - "Lost Control" ("The More You Live, The More You Love")
Kajagoogoo - "Take Another View" ("Too Shy")
Real Life - "Like A Gun" ("Send Me An Angel")
The Fixx - "Going Overboard" ("Saved By Zero")

Great topic --- "B"-sides gave the artist a chance to stretch out a little - and the results were sometimes better than the A-Side! --- I have alot of favorites but here are a few....

•OMD: "Annex" ('Enola Gay' 12")
•Ultravox : "I Never Wanted to Begin' ('The Thin Wall' 12")
•China Crisis: "Forever I and I"/"Dockland" ("Working with Fire & Steel" 12")
•Simple Minds: "Theme For Great Cities" ("Promised You A Miracle" 12")
•Roxy Music: "South Downs" ("Oh Yeah" 7")
•Echo & the Bunnymen: "Broke My Neck" ('A Promise' 12")
•Tones On Tail: "Twist" ("Christian Says" 12")
•Depeche Mode: "The Great Outdoors!" (Get The Balance Right 12")
•Killing Joke: "Brilliant" ('Empire Song' 7")
•U2: "Trash, Trampoline And The Party Girl" ('A Celebration' 7")
•Alphaville: 'Seeds' ('Big In Japan' 7")
•Blancmange: "Running Thin" ('Living On The Cieling' 12")
•The Specials: "Guns of Navarone" ("Rudy (A Message To You)7")
•Tears For Fears: "The Marauders" ('The Way You Are'12")

Probably my favorite new wave B-side. Never understood why it wasn't its own A-side, let alone not on the s/t version of the album.

Another EMI Records blunder I discovered thanks to the "Help me identify this!" forum...

Hoorah! Boys Hoorah! - "So Long" ("Is This What You Promised Me?")

I was pretty sure I had the 45, went through a few boxes, and found it. I just never bothered with the B-side until that thread. Huge mistake. "So Long" turned out to be a better song than the one EMI was pushing.

Spandau Ballet - Gently
Nik Kershaw - One of Our Fruit Machines is Missing

amongst others...
New Order - In A Lonely Place
Depeche Mode - But Not Tonight (European B-Side) / Fools
Duran Duran - Secret Oktober
The Cure - Upstairs Room / Lament
The Sisters Of Mercy - Poison Door
Pet Shop Boys - In The Night
...

+ so many more. b-sides have always an important thing for me + a thing that is decreasing more and more with a) stupid chart rules... b) the tendency not to release singles anymore...
