New Wave Outpost Forum

The Greatest Signature Starting Notes thread got me to thinking, which new wave type songs have the coolest basslines? The first two that spring to mind to me are "Peaches" by The Stanglers and Killing Joke's "Eighties."

Any others?

(P.S. Songs like The B-52s "Planet Claire" don't count since that is pretty much the exact same bassline Henry Mancini made up for the theme to "Peter Gunn.")

Well I Wonder, The Smiths.

Almost anything by The Fixx, particularly "Red Skies," "Question" and "Saved By Zero."

Also "Colours Fly And Catherine Wheel" by Simple Minds, among many others by them.

"Words like conviction can turn into a sentence"

"London Calling"

I almost forgot, "Go" by Tones On Tail.

Anything from early Level 42.

All Lined Up - Shriekback.
Bela Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus.
I'm Alive - Love and Rockets.
Love cats - The Cure.

I always loved the bassline in "Rio".

Primary - The Cure
The Lebanon - The Human League

Fatal Charm - Christine has an awsome bass line, but the best one ever is Ski Patrol - Agent Orange. It may be repetitive, but it is monumental.

Cool topic!

New Order - Blue Monday - the classic that is still emulated
DM - Get The Balance Right - it's a wonder that this song isn't more popular.
Nitzer Ebb - Join In The Chant - Can't help but move to this
APB - Shoot You Down - it's Just amazing, real bass, not synth
Duran Duran - Girls On Film - great technique with style combination
New Order - Mr. Disco - from Technique, give it a listen

There are so many more.
One of my favorite things to do - turn on a drum beat, crank up a synth and jam out to my favorite new wave bass lines.

And I agree with Hutter, anything from Level 42.
