I have to say it... REM is great. Sure, some of their albums are better than others but they always leave some really good songs.
Their stuff in the 80s was really avant-garde and in the 90s, they produced some of the best pop songs ever.
Think:
Orange crush
It´s the end of the world as we know it ...
Losing my religion
Everybody hurts
What´s the frequency Kenneth?
Daysleeper

Many bands would kill just as to have 6 songs as good as that.
Yes, but those 6 songs are negated by "Stand", "Radio Song" and "Shiny Happy People".
I would rather hear

"Near Wild Heaven"
"Fall On Me"
"Driver 8"
"So. Central Rain"
"Cuyahoga"
"Texarkana"

Ayyyy..Hutter...Hutter... I'm never gonna make it.... convert you into JD......never. [:p]
Anyway, Nirvana-Joy Division comparisons make me more angry than She Wants Revenge-Interpol-Stellastarr-Editors/Joy Division comparisons.
Comparing Joy Div to Nirvana is just as comparing pizza to ice-cream... it doesn't have any point.
It's got to be KISS. I give them credit for stringing out a THIRTY year career on the basis of just three or four good songs and lots of face paint. But jeez, doesn't this ride ever end?

If you're in your 50's, continuing the facade of youthful lust and rebellion in a desperate attempt to remain hip and relevant, just looks silly.

Put your tonue back in your mouth and put your shirt back on, Grandpa!

Kiss is overrated and worse yet overmarketed.
Please go away Gene Simmons.

"Overated"? Probably Deborah Iyall from Romeo Void.

She and her band are barely above the radar for most people and only serious NW fans like us would recognize the mention of her name or band....so to call her overrated is a joke IMO.

The most overrated band in history is a 3-way tie between
Sex Pistols
Nirvana
Beatles

Make that a 5-way tie with Radiohead and Bob Dylan added to the list.

Um ..... it was obviously a joke. At least you had that part right. Read the misspelling in the subject header and try again.

Please forgive my terrible spelling in the subject header! it is corrected now

But I do have to say I agree with ILLM that putting Deborah Iyall on this list is very strange since the general public only know "Never Say Never" if anything.

I actually think Romeo Void are very underrated and Deborah especially for her dark, intelligent lyrics.

Kiss has one good song--"Plaster Caster"; I kind of like the background harmonies, and cartoonish misogyny makes me laugh. The rest is mindless, simple-chord cock-rock.

The Kiss Army allows stoners who get off wearing clown makeup to live a quasi-fascist fantasy life while following fat, flabby old men across country.
