These guys are often overlooked, although they represent a freakin' continent!

Thanks for this poll SuNomi! A chance to enhance the recognition of some iconic Aussie bands. [:D]

My vote is for Midnight Oil. Such a powerful band, and such an icon here in Australia.

The history of the band and their music is intertwined with many of the most important issues for us over the last 15 or 20 years: mainly the Anti Nuke movement and the reconciliation movement (addressing the shameful way we have treated the indigenous people of our country).

By the way, many of you may not be aware that Peter Garett, the singer, is now a member of the Federal Parliament of Australia (Labour Party).

I would LOVE to see the giant chrome dome become Prime Minister. He would give some other leaders (who, for obvious reasons I won't name here [;)] ) some serious stick!!![:D]

Since Mental As Anything was not in the poll [:(] I voted for New Zealander's Split Enz. Loved them then, still love them now [:)]

Ya know I'd have to say I kind of rediscovered the Go-Betweens with the Rhino Left of the Dial set. Other than remembering vaguely that the Go-Betweens were around I had no memory of them. I'd have to say that I now think Cattle and Cane is one of the prettiest pop songs I've ever heard.

tough one! I don't know the catalogs of these artists very well, so I went predictable and voted Midnight Oil. Although I'm kinda wishing I did Birthday Party instead (bigger influence, now that I think about it).

but personal aussie fave? Single Gun Theory [:)]

The inclusion of Crowded House and Split Enz is laughable. You're off by a few thousand miles.

The inclusion of Men at Work is an insult to australians everywhere. I'm not an australian, but if I were, I'd be offended.

Luckily you left Pseudo Echo and Real Life off. They suck.
