I would add to the list:

It's Immaterial
New Musik
Blue Zoo

These bands were popular here at the time so c'est la vie.

Since you're from Spain, how popular were A Popular History of Signs in Spain in the early 80s?
The Chameleons are up there too.

Chameleons are tops on my list of underrated.
Ditto.

I would also add Concrete Blonde to the list. "Joey" was their hit but they had many other great songs.
I saw Jonnette de Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) do a gig with Chris Baily (Saints) about 4 or 5 years ago at a small local pub called Mojo's! They each did a solo set then several songs together. AWESOME!!!

Jonette...what can I say..she is actually very petit...did her set in this little black cocktail dress, High heels, and playing a Gibson Flying V...how rock and roll is THAT!!![:D][8D]

THE TRIFFIDS...rank alongside The Go-Betweens, but less recognized I think...or maybe I don't know if they are well known here?????

Didn't get the wider recognition they deserved, anyway!

Posted this link elsewhere, but forgot to mention there are video clips available from the links near bottom of page as well.

Thanks for the links panorama...I have seen previews and an in depth review of 'Candy' (a very 'tough' film)...and I can imagine her music in it...I will have to get some of her recent/current music!!!! [:D]

By the way...did I mention that I held her hand to assist her from the stage on the gig I mentioned above? (I wasn't going to, but hey...I have to share! [:D] She is both hot, and a very nice person!)

I agree with lundibleu about Aztec Camera, but one of the most underrated for all of the 80's was OMD. Before they hit it big with top dance hits, they created the most intelligent, moody, artsy elecctronic music with a really lush, ethereal, natural sound that most electronic bands of the early 80's lacked.

Spot-on-Absolutely-100%-correct-on-the-nose. Couldn't agree more.

And furthermore, I'd say the same about Simple Minds circa 1979-81 (Empires And Dance, Sons And Fascination, Sister Feelings Call)...

these two bands got popular and then subsequently became 'over-rated', but alot of people don't know how great all this earlier stuff was....

Talk Talk - The pop stuff notwithstanding, I'm only really "getting" them years later, as my listening has grown more eclectic and matured.

Gary Numan - ( Except for Tubeway Army fans, most people remember him for "Cars". Sad, because there's so much more.

The Armoury Show

Fiat Lux

The thing with this thread is that there are places where some of the bands mentioned are underrated and there are some where they're not (not overrated, just not underrated).

Where I come from, Died Pretty, Flaming Mussolinis, Hit Parade, Hoodoo Gurus, Comsat Angels are just some examples of underrated bands.

The wildswans and lotus eaters are somewhat well-recognized and well-appreciated by people in my age group, i.e. from 30-40 even if they're not new wave fans.
