Jools Holland

Postby Gyroscope2 » Sun Jul 02, 2006 8:11 am

I saw a special showing a while back of the film "Urgh! A Music War" and there was a performance by Jools Holland of a song called "foolish I know" but it featured a female vocalist. Does anyone know who the female vocalist was? I also recently picked up Squeeze's first album (very good by the way) which featured Jools Holland on keyboards. Is this the same Jools Holland? I'd love to pick up a recording of foolish I know, but I think it is out of print, at least Urgh! is. Thanks everyone!

Yep, it's the same Jools Holland that was in Squeeze.

The reason why he doesn't sing is because he can't. His band, Jools Holland and the Millionaires, featured him on vocals and his voice is thin. Sorry not to have answered your question concerning the identity of the vocalist but thought to give you some background information about Jools' vocal abilities.

Jools may not have a great voice but I'd have to say "Wrong side of the moon," Jools singing ,is one of my favorite songs on ArgyBargy. Their 1rst album ,not unlike Cheap Tricks, just doesn't sound like anything else they did especially "Wild sewage tickles Brazil".

I'm not doubting the music, I think it's great, but with a decent vocalsist they could of been huge,

I agree Squeeze's first album is an anomaly in their later catalogue and generally in the genre which fed them, pub rock.Don't forget, that John Cale was beside them at the time, and also had plans to drive the band in an avant pop direction.Jools also made a guest appearance in Wayne County and the Electric Chairs' first album, playing keyboards in two songs.

yes, I agree, Squeeze's first album was very much different from their later releases. I much preferred this earlier sound.

Does anyone know who the female vocalist was in "foolish i know"? Was it one of the members of Jools Holland and His Millionaires? Also, does anyone know if this song was first released on a Jools Holland album or did it only appear on Urgh?
