What gets you going besides NW music?

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

What gets you going besides NW music?

Postby profpike » Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:57 am

obviously one of the reasons we're all here is because we have some connection with 80s music or "New Wave" (whatever that is). But is there anything that "trips your trigger" besides the music of the 80s?

I Love Love Love 6t's nuggets-type music-which, interestingly enough I got into during the 80s! With all of the psych and garage revival bands and of course, the "nuggets" rekkids by Rhino.

I also love "oldies" and the whole spirit of old time rock 'n roll radio- I think two of the gretest jocks of all time are Art Laboe and Dick Bartley- I collect Art Laboe, Oldies But Goodies, Dick Bartley CDs and "American Gold" radio shows.

Say what ya want about the oldies but there's no doubt Art and Dick know and love the music they play.

I hope this thread isn't too "OT"

P.S. I also collect old 45s from most "rock" eras.

Anything--and I mean ANYTHING--that is Ray Conniff gets me in a good mood. However, I recently bought a Morton Gould record, and that hasn't left my turntable in a week.

I love all the dippy orchestrated 60s stuff; I love classical music; I really love the old records with the pops and crackles in them.

If you mean it, I will make a list for you of albums I can't use. Warning, they are old. An old lady gave me 2 cases of them. I have no idea what the stuff is. You want it, its yours.

Musicwise, Madchester and Brit Pop. Also like progressive a lot.
In other areas, I like films a lot and also painting... I'm not a plastic artist but go a lot to museums and expos.
I'm also love science... really do... specially biology and chemistry. I'm not one of those geniuses so I have to study and pay attention to my classes... but what draws me to science is the fact that you are always learning new and exciting stuff. [:D] My sisters always joke and say that I was born with an Alberts' (that's a pretty popular molecular biology book) under my arms.

Jazz-funk (Mezzoforte, Shakatak, Incognito etc.)

Jazz-fusion (Azymuth, early-period Landscape etc.)

No-wave Jazz (A Certain Ratio, 23 Skidoo etc.)

Soul-funk and related (Fat Larry's Band, Raw Silk, Julia & Co Total Contrst, Sunfire, Beggar & Co. etc.)

Game Music (S.S.T. Band, Yoko Kanno etc.)

Pub Rock (The Rumours, Ducks Deluxe, Tyla Gang, Ace etc.)

Oi! Punk (Anti-Nowhere League, Exploited, Not Sensibles etc.)

Test Card Music (moving swiftly on..)

Footy songs (difficult one to classify - if you ignore the fact they're about football, there's some decent music to be found)

Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin, Bruno Nicolai, Fred Bongusto, Goblin, Pino Donaggio, et al. Mainly guys who do film scores. Also, Spanish Romantic: Camilo Sesto, Miguel Bose, Jose Luis Perales, Jose Jose, Emmanuel, Amanda Miguel, and more. Pretty much all other kinds of music as well.

BBC Radio Comedy
Comedy Central audio rips
The Frantics
Parodies (Budwiser Real Men of Genius, Whamco, etc.)
Stand-up comedy

I love classical, jazz and big band music. I play trombone and French horn (and plan to take up cello this fall!), so that's where my love of that music comes from, I guess.

I like most anything, but Dean Martin, chillout, and classical (baroque), old school hip-hop, and old school country stay in heavy rotation on my iPod.
