Calling All NW Experts "O"

Postby NuWaveRx » Sat Jul 15, 2006 3:26 am

Not the big "O" I'm searching for (well not at this moment anyway[:p])

but for the experts opinion on the following acts:

Oh-Ok
Ophelias
Oringinal Mirrors
Oysters

As always thanks for any info or songs by the above!

If it's the same Ophelias, I remember a "whimsical" psych-pop band from San Francisco in the late 80s with English-lit-major lyrics, musically kind of in the latter Red Kross/Jellyfish vein. I had a cassette, I think it was "Strange Weekend".

EDIT: I did a web search and found their entry on the Trouser Press website. The tape I had was "The Big O", apparently their 3rd release. I have never heard the first 2 records to the best of my knowledge.

Oh-OK...............actually released on CD by Collectors Choice a few years ago. Feature Linda Stipe (yes, Michale Stipe's sister). Jangle pop, some more ethereal, and some songs remind me of the group Absolute Grey. Definitely in that Athens Georgia vein, and some intriguing songs. The CD features the complete Furthermore What plus bonus material, some live.

Original Mirrors - if you are lucky enough to come across the CD Best Of, it is actually their 2 LP's on 1 CD packaged as a hits collection, definitely don't ever pass it up. They do a great version of an old motown classic made big by The Supremes...

Wow--the power of a resurrected thread

Randy! You Rock! I like both songs, especially Could this be heaven. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more buy these guys--I guess the best of is what I'll be tracking down. Ahh I lose money just about everytime I do one of these threads--but the bands I've learned about are well worth it.

Thanks to you too Grunch. I love jangle-pop (mostly) so I'll see if I can get the Collectors Choice Cd you mention

Original MIrrors featured Steve Allen on vocals (not the 20/20 guy as stated in the liner notes). He was previously known as Enrico Cacillac, the male vocalist in Deaf School.

Original Mirrors' guitar player, co-songwriter was future Care/Lightning Seeds member/producer Ian Broudie.

Ian Broudie IS the Lightning Seeds!

Original Mirrors also featured the very scary looking Phil Spalding on bass who went on to play with Toyah amongst others but I;ve not heard what happened to himn after the mid 80s - he was such a great bassist he must have stayed in the biz.
