Weirdest way you've met a friend ?

It's a baking hot (96 deg.) Thurs. afternoon, and I thought I'd just post this question: what's the strangest way that you've ever met someone who became a friend of yours ? I bet you all have some great stories.[:o)]

I was on the internet, browsing through livejournals...and I saw the hottest picture I've ever seen. It was of a girl with spiky hair in black and white sitting in her underwear on her bed...and I was like "DAMN!"...and I sent her an email saying hello. I didnt check the profile...turned out...not only did she totally like 80s music, but she also lived near me.

We started talking but then drifted out of touch....then out of the blue...literally....just the most random of moments. She came up to visit me and we maintained communication pretty regularly...until she moved away.

But yeah- she was cool..and the first (nowhere near the last) of people that I met from the internet. She was also one of the most interesting and strange people I've ever met. Shes off with her fiance doing fiance-like things and has completely forgotten my existance.

Not "friends" per se, but I hooked up with a Texan girl at a Dachau Concentration Camp tour. We basically "went out" for a week, hanging out from southern Germany through Rome. It kinda makes Seinfeld making out during "Schindler's List" pretty passe...but I was like 20! My other excuse? The girl was luscious. Not much brains though. I finally couldn't take it anymore...imagine a thick Texas accent going "Look, it's a dumptruck, a dumptruck, they got dumptrucks in Italy!" or "Olives? Olives grow on trees? Wow!" and finally "Hey, if we're in Rome, how come all the license plates say 'ROMA'!" Aaah, sweet youth.

Well... one of my friends and I met at university but in a really fun way. We were in the line for coffee and we started making jokes about being asleep. So I said "I should have become some weird band groupie instead of coming to university to study. Especially, if it's a band with hot members". She says "Yes, me too. But the singer I like best is dead.". I look at her and say "Ian Curtis??? Oh... no.. you like Joy Division???" (which in Argentina is really rare as very few people know the band). She looks at me and says "Yes. I love Joy Division.. they are like my favourite band." And then we started hanging out together (though she studies Literature) and realised that we had lots of things in common. Moreover, then we realised that her mum was my 6th grade English teacher.

This is a great question, KYYX. I wish that circumstances were different for me so that I could have something worthwhile to post here. As it stands, I have met my friends in the usual instances: work, through other friends, zzzzzz....

OK fine I'll be the weird one! One of my best friends burned my wth a cigaret. We spoke today- friends for about 24 years.
My other friend that I have spoke of before (cough cough) I met through friends after placing an add in my local paper looking for cool people to hang out with. Of all the people I met, she is the best and closest. Friends for about -17 years now.

I don't know if this qualifies as weird, but it's sort of funny--

At my last job, there was a girl who also worked there who was just perfect--gorgeous, funny, outgoing, perfect family, etc. She worked in a different department, so we didn't interact much, and when we did, it was only briefly because I really am quiet as a church mouse IRL.

We all had to work on Thanksgiving, and the company had ordered a Thanksgiving lunch and had it delivered to us. When we got the turkey unwrapped, it was cold in the middle, so this girl takes it to her house to put into her oven for a few hours. When she got back, I ended up in the conference room helping her set up our now very, very late lunch. She said that while she was at home she had cleaned her house and made some comment about cleaning her daughter's bathroom, to which I reponded, "Well, if my turkey tastes like ass, I'll know who to blame." It just came out and I was mortified. She cracked up, and until I moved, we were inseparable (probably because, like me, she has the uncanny ability to say the most inappropriate things to other people).

Ok, not weird but pretty special. My bestfriend and I have been friends since grade 2 (we were 8 yrs. old!), and the funny thing is that she can still remember the first time we met and how I looked back then! (I don't remember a thing other than the time when she was trying so hard to convince me that her toy ring was gold![:D])

I met a bunch of people like this girl you talk about the 2 times I've been to your country... I was asked such weird questions I sometimes doubted whether I had misunderstood them. Almost every day someone asked me if we have cars and computers in Spain [:0] or if we have this or that (when I looked at something for more than a couple seconds I was asked if I had seen something like that before)... Are we supposed to be in the Stone Age or the Middle Ages??? [xx(]
