Great New Wave Albums From Late 80's To Early 90's

Postby Sean » Wed Aug 09, 2006 7:37 am

We always think of the early to mid 80's when we think about New Wave but there were so many great albums that were released in the late 80's and early 90's. Here are some of my favorites:

Celebrate The Nun - Continuous
Anything Box - Peace
Camouflage - Bodegia Bohemia
Cicero - Future Boy
Xymox - Twist Of Shadows
Moskwa TV - Javelin
Seven Red Seven - Shelter
Hubert Kah - Sound Of My Heart
Cetu Javu - Where Is Where
Boytronic - Love For Sale
Cause & Effect - Self-Titled
Information Society - Self-Titled
De/Vision - World Without End
Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour
When In Rome - When In Rome
Robotiko Rejekto - Cyberspace

There's so many. These are just the ones off the top of my head. Please add more.

S.P.O.C.K - Five Year Mission
Wolfsheim - No Happy View
(all early 90es stuff that sounds very much new wave)

I was very into Curve and the Catherine Wheel in the early 90s. I think the string of 3 eps that Curve put out were incredible along with their Doppleganger lp.
Any and all Catherine Wheel was amazing. I love that huge wall of guitar sound.

Isn't the subject line an oxymoron?

I'm still waiting on the list of best gangsta rap albums from the late 1960s to early 1970s. :)

The list above is full of great stuff. I'd add "Wish" by The Cure to it. It's not a popular opinion, but I think it's better than "Disintegration."

I'm with British...

New wave wasn't so new by the late 80's.... it started turning into old crap [;)]

New Wave as such was gone, but these are certainly influenced by new wave

Lush - Gala
Sam Phillips - Cruel Inventions
Erasure - Chorus
Nick Heyward - From Monday to Sunday
Gavin Friday - Adam 'n' Eve
David Sylvian - Secrets of the Beehive (great album- really stretches the boundary of new wave, though)
