Greatest Debut Album Ever...

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

I guess I would go for The Smiths s/t album and the Cure Three Imaginary Boys/ Boys Don't Cry. Those bands were the ones which hooked me to new wave.

I chose Unknown pleasures... simple reason, I listened to it yesterday after a long time of not listening to it and I was amazed by the quality of the whole album.
No Outlandos D'Amour option?? I think that is possibly the greatest debut album ever. [:D]

As Marvy would say:
The JD/NO coalition grows... welcome to the gang. [8D]

While I was tempted to vote for all of them-they're all excellent albums (or at least very good-I guess I can't say that Oingo Boingo's debut is one of the best of the best and I really think of Joy Divison as more of a singles band in that I think most of their definitive statements were made in singles before their debut came up).

I had to go with the Ramones-look what it started.

I'd also throw in Thompson Twins "Quick Step & Side Kick", their first album as a trio. Not a bad song in the bunch on that album.

Pretenders. Their debut album is solid all the way through and still highly listenable today. At the time it was fresh and sassy, but with its tender moments, too. But after their debut they went downhill and lost their edge, churning out boring radio hits.

Lots of great choices there,

but ultimately I pick Duran Duran by Duran Duran
and
The Hurting by Tears For Fears
and
Psychedelic Furs' debut was no slouch either !

From the list, I picked "The Pretenders", but my all-time favourite would have to be "Stand Back" by The Arrows. I just love it [8D]
