What about that one female singer who seemed to do a lot of duetting/background singing for the Culture Club as well? Because that one had a very Alf Moyet-like voice and appearance. So much so that I used to totally believe that Alf Moyet WAS in fact that one Culture Club girl. I think I found out several years ago that she was someone else, not the Yaz frontwoman.

Helen Terry. She had a solo hit. "Love Lies Lost", which was quite good actually.

Or how about an all expenses paid trip to sin city? You and I can cruise all the Elvis impersonator shows, fill up on cheap shrimp cocktails, and audition for the chorus line of a show. I've always wanted to wear a gaudy headdress and fishnets.

I'm still assembling your prize. I've got to make a trip to the Luxor this weekend for the best part of it [:)]

For me, Andy Bell sounded much like Alison Moyet. It's hard to deny the similarity in style.

In a time when I had no MTV or a lot of access to European music vids, I still relied on radio to hear new songs. When I heard Bronski Beat's "Why?" and "Smalltown Boy", I thought it was a woman who sang them. I also never knew how the person by the name of "Nick Gilder" looked like, but late-70s Glam Rock hit, "Hot Child In The City," sure sounded like a woman.

After hearing Don't go and situations back when I was 13. I thought for many years that Yaz was fronted by a male. It wasn't until watching the video for Don't Go on VH1's pop up video back around "98" that I finally realized it was a woman. It was hard to accept at first. But it was the truth.

You are awesome! Thanks for the very helpful information! YES, Helen Terry -- she's the Alison Moyet-a-like. And now I shall have to go and check out "Love Lies Lost".
For a long time I wondered about Alison Moyet. Sure, I was "mostly" sure she was a woman (and now I know that she is), but at the time, her deep and amazingly powerful voice, coupled with her large head and prominent features made me doubt myself. Women just didn't sing like that. For years I wondered if she was maybe in drag or a transsexual. [:0]

So true! When I first heard "Love Resurrection" I thought that it was Spandau Ballet.

BMG, I think the band of which you're thinking is Scritti Politti.

Somehow I don't *think* anyone would name a baby girl "Paul Julian" (i.e. Green's real first and middle names). ;)

Anyway, ooh, Alison Moyet. What about that one female singer who seemed to do a lot of duetting/background singing for the Culture Club as well? Because that one had a very Alf Moyet-like voice and appearance. So much so that I used to totally believe that Alf Moyet WAS in fact that one Culture Club girl. Yeah...I realized my mistake as soon as I hit the post button. However, I was too lazy to fix it. Oh, well.
