Greatest Sophomore Album

Postby SuNomi » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:04 am

The "Sophomore Slump" is a common phrase that's bandied about when new and exciting artists hit paydirt with great debuts then disappoint with a rushed or uninspired follow-up. These are the ones who managed to buck that curse. Which is your favorite?

While obviously not NW, I voted Nirvana. Nevermind was a very important album. Still one of the few cd's of that nature I can listen to in completeness.

I have spent the last three or four hours debating between these two:

Gang Of Four - "Solid Gold"
Wire - "Chairs Missing"

I love both of them equally. I love both those bands equally. GRAH.

Oh, and a reminder that Duran Duran's most famous album was their sophomore one (Rio), though no one would confuse the band with a band that has had any success critically so perhaps they get disqualified for that.

Yep. Rio. Rivaled closely by Candy-O.

Ok, I've decided. If I can do a write-in, I'll cast a vote for Duran Duran's Rio. If I can't, I'll vote for Wire. I listened to both Solid Gold and Chairs Missing earlier in the evening and decided, based on the fact that I just can't get enough of "French Film Blurred", that Wire won. Oh, and I just found out this evening that Colin Newman himself oversees Wire's MySpace profile, which is, like, WHOA.
