<br>This is just my opinion.

Who are new wave?

At least in our school during my high school days, people who didnt comb their hair, wore make up and lipstick ( in honor maybe of Robert Smith), wore creepers shoes and trench coat, gelled their hair bangs like a cobra ( imitating Cool Carla of Identity Crisis), of course, listens to NW music.

What are new wave?

New wave is not your everyday music. Its very hard to define this term. Their music is not different from other styles,(cause they also use brass instruments, as in Close To Me by The Cure or James), but they do it in a very stylish way. It will stand above the rest when you hear it coz its very different. Most of these bands are British and it makes you proud when you are into this genre. New Wave are neither pop nor disco but they also fit in to these categories. Undefinable, for me at least.

I hope you'll be responsible on your posting here MAN! Please don't name all the LEGENDARY NEW RADIO STATIONS and NEW WAVE RADIO SHOWS here in MANILA as your source because these is a WORLDWIDE forum and we don't want any misleading facts that would change the views of our CO-MEMBERS here about what FILIPINO thinks about NEW WAVE just what you've done on your thread regarding not considering a NEW WAVE BAND as NEW WAVE because you have a pop compilation(hope it's not pirated) that includes your band list. MIKE SUTTON and I have been promoting the NEW WAVE GENRE that happened in MANILA and we base our post on our experiences and true facts. THANKS KABAYAN![;)]

Oh sorry MAN. Like i said, i joined this forum to learn more about new wave. Im restricted to what ive just heard but if you think im a poser, your wrong man. First, i dont have pop compilation cd's. Ive seen the bands ive mentioned in pop cd's when im browsing at record stores. (Odyssey, even Tower Records). Thats why i posted that thread to know if they are new wave or not. If they are new wave, so be it. Im not contesting that they are not new wave. I just want CONFIRMATION. And i dont buy pirated cds for obvious reasons. In fact there are very few pirated cd of new wave bands here, well maybe Recto before. I had cassettes (200 of them) and im just starting to look for their counterpart in cds. And what local radio stations that ive mentioned that may mislead other members here. Ive mentioned WXB and Power 105, just as you did. Ah, maybe you are referring to KLITE Lite Wave. But whats misleading with that? They play New Wave songs. Ive mentioned RT. Maybe youre referring to the provider of materials? The mobiles?

Im really looking up to you. Ive read your posts in other threads and you really are knowledgable about new wave. You are "in" in all those happenings when new wave is in its golden age here in manila. At that time, im still young. My knowledge is just about the music, the bands, some facts maybe. But you of all people, i think, is trying to mock your fellow countrymen. Instead of providing your professional insights on my thread, you make it your laughingstock. Look at the other members who posted on my thread. They answered my question straight and sound. Whats wrong with my question? It is a QUESTION, im not trying to post a fact. I admitted i was wrong when i posted that XB doest play Duran Duran. I never heard them play it when im listening. Its an honest mistake. And you posted like your the only one who has the RIGHT to post about DWXB ad DZBM.

Why dont you just help me about new wave. If you dont want me to join this forum, just say so man. But i wont delete my account. Youre in the Phils right. What area are you. Why wont you call me so we can clear each other up. Im willing to give you my phone, just say so. You have to know me personally to judge me if im new wave or not. Anyway i still have a question regarding one program in NU 107. Hope you wont mock me this time. Im just finding the right thread to post it. If you dont want to answer it, fine but i know you know it.

Thanks anyway KABAYAN and Peace again.

THANKS FOR THE INPUTS GUYS![8D] I know a lot of us has their own and diverse view about NEW WAVE.[;)] It's definitely a "MUSICAL GENRE THAT ROCKED A GENERATION". With all the fashion, looks, styles, the bands and their music, all SUBGENRE, the histories of each band members forming another bands, attitude. WOW!![;)] You could go on and on....and on. And of course, don't forget the memories that has given us joy and happiness with every years that has passed[8D]. I guess that's really NEW WAVE! It's that music genre that we grew up with, liked it, loved it, and collected the materials. There are so much more within it.[8D] PEACE!![;)]

Y'all blather on about what "new wave" means. Here be's my humble definition: new wave was anything that pushed against what was considered "safe" music (commercial, easily labeled)circa the late 70's - early 80's. It couldn't be labeled, so most radio stations didn't play them until the more intelligent and adventuresome radio stations took a chance and, by default, these diverse but similiar in spirit music acts got lumped into one genre, dubbed New Wave. So...to me at least, New Wave was anything, ska, rock, funk, post-punk, power pop, that couldn't be cleanly labeled as any specific mainstream genre cica 1977-1983. New Wave was the "assorted goodies" file in the big music filing cabinet.

I totally agree about the definition of new wave being different depending on your age at the time. I was in high school in the late 1970's, so I experienced the whole arena rock scene first hand (~gag [xx(]~). I have a very broad definition of new wave to basically include anything that was a backlash against the excesses of arena rock, which had become a parody of itself with ten minute songs about mythology and medieval crap, self-indulgent masturbatory guitar solos, pretty boys with unbuttoned shirts and long frizzy hair, booze, drugs, and groupies. The punk and pop of Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Blondie, Ramones, The Cars, Rockpile, The Clash, etc., was a breath of fresh air. (OK, I also loved the B-52's, who use synths). During the late 70's into early 80's, the synthesizer-based sound of new wave hadn't really taken off yet, at least not among my peers. It was more guitar-based. So for my age group (I'm 45--I was 20 in 1981), my definition of NW is more broad, not just limited to the synthesizer-type sound.

Right-on Paula!! My sentiments exactly - when I 1st heard these bands you mention........Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Blondie, Ramones, The Cars, Rockpile, The Clash, B-52's, my whole world changed.

I was so happy to rid my album collection of Styx & Billy Joel, Forigner, Billy Squier ....etc. After those bands you mention started getting some airplay on our local Baltimore radio stations, I found that the local college stations REALLY played "new wave/post-punk" & I've never stopped listening to this music. It's my therapy, my escape.
