1ST NEW WAVE CASSETTE TAPE

Postby DSR » Fri Sep 08, 2006 7:43 pm

Right now we have our CDs in our NEW WAVE collections. For some of us, like me, we still have our own NEW WAVE VINYL RECORD collections. What was the first NEW WAVE CASSETTE TAPE you ever bought?
Mine would be "AZTEC CAMERA- High Land Hard Rain" album on cassette format back in 1983.

I still remember when i was in grade 4, i bought Duran Duran's album ARENA. Then i followed it with TEARS FOR FEARS THE HURTING and SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR. Then DEPECHE MODE The Singles. I still have them but the quality of the sound have deteriorated thru the years. But i still treasure them. I wont sell them either.

Kabayan DSR, is the SECRET SHINE CD original or burn copy. Does it have the songs LOVEBLIND, SNOWFUL SORROW and LIQUID INDIGO? How much. I might buy just 1. You know naman life in our country. Its hard to earn money. Thanks Kabayan!!

DSR, that's really funny. That was my first tape as well along with Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" in 1986.

My first new wave cassette was Elvis Costello's Armed forces, but I can go you one better than that...I had Blondie's Eat to the Beat on 8-track!

The same answer as my first album, Blondie's "AutoAmerican" in February/March 1980--I only had a tape player (did not have my own stereo system until 1982--and when I wasn't taping from the radio, I owned tapes, concerned about scratching records and not understanding the pit falls of the dropouts). I did not own a CD Player until 1990, which further reveals my quests of today in finding CD's or MP3s :)

I have posted before about my punk/newwave 8-tracks so this makes me think back.I know I had trouble with 8-track tapes being eaten so I did not buy a lot of cassettes but I still have a Johnny Thunders-To Much Junkie Business on Rior I bought around 1984.This is probably as close to a new wave store bought cassette as I got.

I alway bought vinyl records, so I think the first cassette I purchased would have been A Flock Of Seagulls' second LP, "Listen."

I think is was orange in color, and had added tracks not on the vinyl release? [?] Anyone remember this? [?]

I don't know which was my first new wave cassette, it may have been Altered Images, Happy Birthday or Heaven 17's The Luxury Gap. (which I still have) I just took a look and I got got rid of a lot of my cassettes over the years but I still have: New Order's Low-Life, OMD's Crush, Alphaville's Forever Young, B 5'2's Whammy and The Housemartins, The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death.

"Rosenmontag," "Last Flight of Yuri Gagarin" and "Quicksand," and I'm almost positive this was my first new wave cassette for the same reason. I picked up the record at the same time, IIRC.

An awesome instrumental: "Last Flight of Yuri Gagarin!" (I also love DNA from 1st album.) Thanks for remembering the extra songs! [:D]
