A New Wave version of Sha Na Na

Postby hutter » Mon Sep 11, 2006 5:42 am

Remember in the 70's when Sha Na Na got their own TV show and were stinking up the airwaves with their covers of 50's tunes? Would it be a bad or good idea for some folks to start up a new wave cover band and get the same treatment (TV show, cd's, the works)? IMO, it could be a train wreck, or it could work well. It all depends. Anyone agree with either POV? And say why, dangit!

It sucked then and it would suck now, because true suckage is timeless.

It would do both; suck and blow. Once The Man got ahold of it we'd be lucky to get something like AFOS amidst schlock like Loverboy and Shalamar and Billy Ocean.

<p align="justify">This concept works better if it dealt with Yacht Rock instead of New Wave, because we all know New Wave is nothing to joke about[}:)]

I posted a week or so back on the Methodones doing a bang up job on all powerpop covers. It is on some small unknown lable and I bet not many people will bother to buy it.Ditto for any new wave cover band.
Fifties music is timeless new wave came and went quickly and in a lot of rural areas I bet it never even stopped for a coffee.I remember that Sha Na Na show and it was gawd awful. I could,nt see a new wave show being to good either and I doubt I,d watch it.

If such a show were to exist, it would be marketed to the masses, not us. The masses think NW is all about silly hairdos and shiny suits. I don't think we need these stereotypes to be perpetuated....
