The Coolest New Wave Image?

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

Everytime I see the Kim Wilde video "Kids in America" I think that she looked totally 80's new wave. Her hair, clothes, attitude. It was cool.

Also that wild look of AFOS was right there with that look.....

Chameleons NOT New Wave music?

Why there should be a picture of them in the dictionary right next to the term! Unless you are talking about some strange musical tangent they tried before they did what they became known for.

Everyone has mentioned great bands, I agree with all assessments... a few more to consider:

Adam And The Ants
The Jam/The Style Council (every choice of clothing Paul Weller wore, was immediately worn by his followers...)
The Chords
Peter Godwin (good-looking chap)
Bryan Ferry (smooth Mo'Fo)
Roxy Music
The Go-Go's
Kraftwerk
Haysi Fantasi
The whole second wave of ska (2-Tone movement): The Selector, Madness, The Specials, The Bodysnatchers, The Swingin' Utters, et al), but not Bad Manners--no real style!
The Ramones (leather kings!)
Fashion

To name a few...

It's a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod, World!

Best Image? Easy.

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tt-eX-q5L8U"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tt-eX-q5L8U" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Unassuming. Modest. Approachable. Confident.

WHOA. Barney Sumner was a mega hottie in his youth, wasn't he?

Sorry, my hormones are raging at the moment.

The absolute first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this thread was the Nagle painting that was the cover of Rio. So I guess my vote goes to Duran Duran. When discussing lasting and widespread image I think they win hands down. Sure there were bands that looked better, cooler, weirder, etc. but DD had kids in rural Idaho and Timbuktu imitating their look. I think that for the 83-85 timeframe the only people to have a bigger impact on style and image would be Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Visage would be the image I chose to represent New Wave.

These bands also have cool images:

Duran Duran (1st 2 albums)
Clan of Xymox
Pseudo Echo (Autumnal Park)
Depeche Mode (throughout their whole career)
Alphaville

I think that her phone number's area code doesn't belong to this world... maybe not even to this universe. [:p]

Wow. Mockery about someone looking androgonous or "spacey" in a New Wave image thread?! That's got to take the cake for being unclear on the concept.
